About The Position
The Clark County Department of Environment & Sustainability is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Senior Air Quality Specialist position(s) for the Compliance and Enforcement section, the Permitting section, or the Planning section. Senior Air Quality Specialists perform a variety of advanced and highly specialized professional and technical tasks in air quality management and pollution control for Clark County.
Compliance and Enforcement SectionThis position works within the Air Quality’s Compliance and Enforcement section, in either the Stationary Source Compliance, Dust Compliance, or Enforcement Group. The role frequently works in a field and/or office environment and conducts on‑site air quality compliance inspections of major and minor stationary sources, construction sites, and vacant land; responds to citizen complaints; observes tests of air pollution control equipment;
and prepares and reviews technical documents including Notices of Violations and inspection reports. In addition, the team member performs advanced level research and analysis, participates in complex studies and projects, and provides information regarding pollution control compliance methods and devices. The team member also provides lead direction and training to Air Quality staff and promotes a positive image of Air Quality to the general public.
Section
This position works primarily in an office environment with occasional meetings beyond normal business hours and light travel for conferences, meetings and/or trainings. The Senior Air Quality Specialist provides technical support in regional air quality planning, including assisting in the development of strategies to reduce air pollutants. The specialist interprets local, state, and federal regulations and policies, and assists with the development of new regulations.
The team member conducts literature reviews and stays updated on emerging trends and technologies in air quality management; uses monitoring technologies, data analysis software, modeling programs and other analytical tools to interpret and evaluate data and trends; and supports efforts to determine the origins of air pollutants, prepares various emissions inventories, and completes complex studies.
This position is in the Permitting Section and will be writing air quality permits and support documentation for major stationary sources throughout Clark County. The role is responsible for processing applications, evaluating potential emissions, assessing applicable regulations, establishing operational and control requirements, and conducting site visits. The person will perform senior level tasks such as reviewing the work of others, providing guidance to less experienced staff, and contributing to various program development projects.
This is an open and continuous recruitment. Scheduling dates will vary depending on when the application is received and reviewed by Human Resources.
Minimum RequirementsEducation and Experience:
Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in environmental, chemical, mechanical or civil engineering, chemistry, physics or a related field and three (3) years of full‑time professional‑level experience in air quality management and pollution control or a directly related field.
Work in a normal office environment and outdoors in various weather conditions, dust and noise. May attend meetings outside of normal working hours.
Licensing and CertificationPossess a valid Nevada Class C Driver's License at time of appointment.
Background InvestigationEmployment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment, background investigations may be conducted.
