The Electrical Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, construction, and maintenance of electrical systems across Anglo Gold Ashanti's mining and processing operations in North America. This includes power infrastructure, substations, process plant systems, and surface and underground electrical networks. The role combines hands-on field work with strategic technical oversight, ensuring that all electrical systems meet safety, reliability, and performance standards.

You will act as a key liaison between engineering, construction, and operations teams, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and to specification.

Education & Certifications

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (required). Professional Engineer (PE) License or eligibility preferred. MSHA Electrical Training Certificate (preferred).

Experience

Minimum 6–8 years of electrical engineering experience within mining, mineral processing, or heavy industrial operations. Experience in both greenfield and brownfield project environments. Proven experience with power distribution systems (HV/MV/LV), substation design, and process control systems. Demonstrated ability to manage contractors and multiple concurrent engineering scopes.

Technical Skills

Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, ISA, IEC, and MSHA standards. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, and project management tools (e.g., Oracle, People Soft, Tableau). Ability to read and interpret PFDs, P&IDs, electrical schematics, loop diagrams, and control narratives. Familiarity with BI and data-driven reporting for performance monitoring. Understanding of reliability-centered and condition-based maintenance practices.

Working Conditions

Combination of field, site, and office work. Exposure to mining and process environments, including noise, dust, and varying weather conditions. May require use of PPE, including arc flash and fall protection gear. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work extended hours as required.
