About this RoleAdvanced Electric Systems (AES) is seeking Electrical Testing & Commissioning Technicians (Mid-Level through Senior) This position involves nationwide travel supporting client projects. - Transformer Electrical Testing (TTR, PF, Winding Resistance)
- Breaker Timing & Contact Resistance
- CT Polarity & Saturation Testing
- Primary & Secondary Injection
- Protection Scheme Verification
- Switchgear & GIS Commissioning
- Outage-Based Startup & System Energization
- Troubleshooting Protection & Control Systems
- Protective Relay Systems (SEL, GE Multilin, ABB, Siemens, Basler)
- Power Transformers (Dry-Type & Oil-Filled)
- Instrument Transformers (CTs / VTs)
- Circuit Breakers (LV / MV / HV – Vacuum, SF₆, Oil)
- GIS Equipment
- Medium & High Voltage Switchgear
- Protection & Control Schemes
- DC Systems & Battery Banks
As a Electrical Testing & Commissioning Technician, you will play a key role in ensuring the reliability of protection and control systems and electrical power apparatus. Your responsibilities will include:
- Perform field testing, troubleshooting, startup, and commissioning of electrical equipment
- Interpret electrical one-lines, schematics, protection logic, and relay settings
- Execute relay testing and protection scheme verification during outage-based commissioning projects
- Lead or support field crews during testing, commissioning, and energization activities
- Provide technical leadership on startup and capital upgrade projects when applicable
- Document and report test results per project specifications
- Coordinate with utility clients, EPCs, and project management teams
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years electrical testing or commissioning experience
- Class A CDL or be willing to get one
- Experience with substation equipment testing
- Familiarity with protective relay testing
- Experience with Doble, Omicron, Manta, Vanguard, or similar
- Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
- Willingness to travel for project assignments
- NETA II / III / IV Certification
- Transformer Testing Experience
- Breaker Testing Experience
- Commissioning or Startup Experience
- Utility or EPC Project Experience
- Renewable Interconnect or BESS Project Experience
- Military Prime Power or Equivalent
