IMEG is hiring a Civil Engineering Intern in Ontario, CA, to work closely with experienced engineers and consultants on engineering analysis, design, field inspections, writing reports, preparing permit applications, site drainage and grading designs, and learning the civil engineering trade.
Over 10-12 weeks, this internship offers hands‑on experience supporting active project work in a collaborative environment. In this role, you will support project work while helping the team stay aligned with project budgets, cross-functional coordination needs, project goals, and client expectations. The team supports survey, transportation, and municipal work across Southern California and the Southwest, delivering resilient, environmentally responsible infrastructure.

- Assist with design portions of civil projects related to discipline systems according to code and IMEG standards
- Assist with researching resources for commercially available equipment
- Assist with client relations, project design notebook documentation, and permanent record files
- Assist with coordinating design and schedule with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment supplier teams
- Assist with documenting design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project design progress
- Assist with reviewing project documents for accuracy and completeness prior to requesting a final check
- Assist with preparation and issuance of addendum information
- Conduct periodic job site observations and all other services as required by the contract services agreement
- Required
Education:
Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required. - Required Experience:
None listed. - Required Skills/Abilities:
- May be required to assist with field duties such as surveying and materials testing.
- Strong interest in design consulting.
- Skill in the use of Microsoft Office programs, CAD software and BIM.
- Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups.
- Preferred:
Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred.
- Civil and survey work across Southern California and the Southwest, from Anaheim and Pasadena to Las Vegas and Scottsdale.
- Site civil and ADA design for major clients including Toyota and Kaiser Permanente medical facilities.
- Strong K-12 and higher-education portfolio, including modular classroom builds and campus sewer improvements.
- Recent work includes Kaiser Medical Center Ontario, Healthcare, McKinley School Relocatable Classrooms, Education, and Toyota NAPCC Fencing, Industrial.
