Position Overview

Underwrites residential loans ensuring compliance with company and secondary market investor standards and all applicable laws. Responsible for examining loan documentation for accuracy and completeness in conventional and other mortgage programs. Must underwrite wholesale and retail loans within company and industry guidelines, and work with loan originators, branch managers and processors to secure all required documents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwrites loan program loans to verify completeness, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Develops and maintains an up-to-date and sound knowledge of multiple loan product guidelines, DU/LP guidelines, and risk assessment tools used to decide mortgage loans.
  • Adheres to policies and procedures set forth by the brand and Panorama Mortgage Group, LLC.
  • Revises loans to new terms, identifies additional conditions as needed to ensure a viable credit decision.
  • Reviews and evaluates borrower profiles, including income documentation, tax returns, credit reports, preliminary reports, judgments, bankruptcy documents, and appraisals.
  • Analyzes and calculates income documentation such as personal and business income statements and ensures all necessary documentation is requested to support final loan decisions.
  • Ensures loans meet the Ability to Repay (ATR) rules established by the CFPB by considering and documenting eight underwriting factors: current or reasonably expected income or assets; current employment status; monthly mortgage payment; monthly payments on simultaneous loans; monthly mortgage‑related obligations; current debt obligations, alimony, and child support; monthly debt‑to‑income ratio or residual income; credit history.
  • Adjusts underwriting based on QC findings, keeps QC informed of changes, conducts reasonableness tests, and issues quality decisions.
  • Determines accuracy and completeness of files; ensures processes are consistent.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in automated underwriting systems (DU, LP).
  • Maintains knowledge of secondary market activity, practices, and business/industry practices affecting underwriting quality and origination activity.
  • Maintains service‑level standard of decisions within time frame set by the company.
  • Communicates regularly with sales team, processors, and management.
  • Consistently meets or exceeds established minimum productivity and quality goals set by management.
  • Responds timely on audits of loan files underwritten prior to and after funding is obtained.
  • Reviews all documentation submitted in a file for compliance with product and investor guidelines, borrower validation, Ability to Repay, and risk mitigation.
  • Calculates income and assets accurately and requires sufficient documentation to support findings and decision; following AUS findings is a requirement with no exceptions.
  • Adheres to overlays and/or guidelines dictated by private investors and agencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with policies and procedures outlined in the Company Handbook.
Requirements
  • Two to four years of underwriting experience in mortgage banking and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three to five years of current frontline mortgage underwriting experience; DE highly desired.
  • Appraisal review and tax return analysis skills required.
  • Prior credit signing authority a plus.
  • Experience with repurchase response and/or rebuttal review and response preparation.();
  • Secondary market experience a plus.
  • Understanding of TILA, RESPA, and predatory lending.
  • Strong analytical, decision‑making, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Attention to accuracy, detail, and ability to handle a high‑volume workload.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, prioritization, and time‑management skills.
  • Proficient in computers, LOS systems, Microsoft Office, Excel; ability to adapt/learn/utilize multiple software programs; paperless environment preferred.
  • Ability to deliver effective results and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Self‑starter, adaptable to a changing environment, can communicate and work well with investors and co‑workers.
  • Clear, concise, and effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Professional demeanor in appearance, interpersonal relations, work ethic, and attitude.
  • High‑school diploma or equivalent.
  • Timely communication and response times according to department standards.
Travel
  • As needed travel internationally between United States and Mexico to meet business needs.
Language
  • English preferred, bilingual (English/Spanish) desired.
