Position Overview
The Person al Financial Counselor (PFC) is an assignment‑ready counselor positioned in Nevada (Grade
24) who provides comprehensive financial counseling to military service members and their families role covers short‑term, surge, and on‑demand coverage in response to military needs such as post‑deployment events or to cover absent counselors.
- Provide full‑breadth personal financial counseling services to service members and families.
- Deliver education and counseling, including one‑on‑one sessions, consultations with commanders or staff, briefings, presentations, and referrals.
- Collaborate with installation and branch points of contact (POC) to ensure program scope meets installation needs.
- Assist service members in establishing spending plans for extended absences.
- Develop and distribute informational financial materials.
- Coordinate, publicize, and conduct a variety of Personal Financial Management classes/workshops across the military lifecycle (arrival, pre‑/post‑deployment, personal and career events per DoDI
1322.34). - Respond to requests for age‑appropriate classes or seminars.
- Utilize virtual counseling or electronic modes (web‑based, secure online chat, video) when authorized by the OSD FINRED Program office.
- Manage duty‑to‑warn situations per DoD protocol.
- Communicate with leadership and participate in regular supervision, sharing trends and issues.
- Participate in regular in‑services/training, quality improvement committees, and other contract activities.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree required; an associate degree plus 4 years’ experience or a high school diploma plus 6 years’ experience may be considered.
- At least 3 years of financial counseling experience.
- U.S. citizenship and fluent English. Bilingual English/Spanish may be required.
- Ability to obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier2 investigation.
- Must pass the Congressionally Mandated Disclosures for Organizational Conflicts of Interest (OCI) process.
- Must hold one of the following certifications:
Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).
Salary range: $58,440 – $93,500 annually, depending on location and qualifications. The position may also be eligible for short‑term incentives and a comprehensive benefits package, including health, life, voluntary, and other benefits.
