Position: JUVENILE PROBATION OFFICER I/II

Position Overview

The Clark County Juvenile Justice Services is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Juvenile Probation Officer position. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment while providing supervision, guidance, case management, and support to youth.

This recruitment is open to entry-level candidates as well as applicants who possess a Nevada P.O.S.T. Category II certification or higher and are seeking a long-term career with Juvenile Justice Services.

All entry-level candidates who successfully pass the background process will begin their career in Juvenile Detention, where they will gain valuable experience working directly with youth in a structured and secured environment.

Salary

Juvenile Probation Officer I: $59,113.60 - $91,561.60 Annually

Juvenile Probation Officer II: $63,856.00 - $98,800.00 Annually

Successful applications that meet the minimum qualifications that are received by December 6, 2026, will be invited to test the week of January 4, 2027, for the tentative academy starting May 2027.

Successful applications that meet the minimum qualifications that are received by March 28, 2027, will be invited to test the week of April 26, 2027, for the tentative academy starting August 2027.

This is an open and continuous recruitment, scheduling dates will vary depending on when the application was received and reviewed by Human Resources.

Employment Terms

This recruitment may be used to fill term (Limited-Permanent) positions. The selected candidates will be hired for a special project or duties of a limited duration, and be required to sign a term of employment letter specifying condition and exact dates of employment. The successful candidates will be eligible for benefits during the duration of employment.

Some positions may be Grant Funded. Grant Funded positions are subject to continuation based on availability of grant funds and the employee will be terminated without right of appeal when such funds are no longer available.

This examination will establish an Open Competitive and Promotional list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months at either level or may be extended as needed by the Office of Human Resources.

The Juvenile Probation Officer I is a training underfill position: upon successful completion of the probationary period (520 hours worked to 2,080 hours worked) and the training program, which is up to two (2) years, the successful candidate will be non-competitively promoted to Juvenile Probation Officer II.

  • Manager's Interview

Candidates who pass the physical readiness examination will advance to the interview.

Examination Process - NV POST I or II Certified Candidates

All candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be notified by e-mail as to the next steps in the process.

  • Manager's Interview

There will be no rescheduling of any part of the examination.

Physical Readiness Examination

To pass this examination, candidates must be able to do all of the following:

  • Vertically jump a height of 12 inches
  • Agility Run in 24.9 seconds
  • 23 sit-ups in one minute
  • 12 push-ups (no time limit)
  • 300 meter sprint in 96 seconds
  • 1.5 mile run in 24 minutes 10 seconds

The physical readiness examination is a pass/fail examination.

The Department of Juvenile Justice Services will be offering POST physical readiness testing (PPRT) demos/practice.
