this is a compliance/enforcement investigator 2 (cei2) position with the dept of motor vehicles, compliance enforcement division located in las vegas and based out of our flamingo office. Investigators are responsible for receipt and review of formal complaints. Investigators are required to make determinations regarding possible regulatory violations and criminal activity, conduct routine patrol to detect violations, enforce actions involving verbal or written warnings, issuance of citations and conduct arrests.

Cei’s are responsible for investigating complaints, conducting interviews and collecting facts in order to facilitate the determination of whether an entity or individual has committed a violation. Preparation of concise written reports of investigative findings, and recommendations as they relate to the applicable statutes/codes. Cei’s are also required to testify at criminal court and administrative hearings. Cei’s are responsible for enforcement and investigations regarding violations of state and/or federal laws or regulations as they pertain to deceptive trade, fraud and other related violations of law.

Under the authority of nrs 239b.010.1(b), the dmv utilizes nrs 205., nrs 293.504, nrs 293.5045, 6 cfr 37.45, 49 cfr , and 49 cfr 384.228 as criteria to obtain a fbi fingerprint clearance check on current and prospective employees. Compliance/enforcement investigators perform investigative and enforcement functions to monitor compliance and enforce state and/or federal laws or regulations pertaining to a specific program or regulatory area. Incumbents are sworn peace officers who have category ii police powers for the enforcement of the provisions of the nevada revised statutes relating to their specific program area and any observed criminal activity.

bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, police science, psychology, business administration or closely related field and one year of professional investigative, law enforcement, or program related experience where standard investigative and enforcement techniques were utilized to make program compliance determinations, enforcement of state and federal laws, preparation of detailed reports for the purpose of justifying administrative sanctions, penalties or criminal prosecution.

Work experience may be obtained in a law enforcement, investigative, regulatory or comparable setting; or graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of professional experience as outlined above; or one year of experience as a compliance/enforcement investigator i in nevada state service.

• receive and review formal complaints and make determinations regarding possible regulatory violations, criminal activity and jurisdiction within a specified program area; gather and analyze background information and facts pertaining to the complaint.
• conduct routine patrol to detect violations of state and federal laws and regulations; initiate enforcement actions such as verbal or written warnings, issuing citations, arrest, mechanical repair orders, and/or placing vehicle out-of-service pending repairs, consistent with appropriate laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
