Position: MEDICAL OFFICE SPECIALIST

Job Overview

Medical Office Specialists are healthcare professionals that will work in the front desk or office area of a healthcare provider's clinic to manage communications with patients, insurers, and medical staff. They must have the ability to communicate and interact well with patients, providers, and co-workers. Our Medical Office Specialists are key members of the team that will ensure the delivery of high‑quality and cost‑effective health care is consistent with the mission, vision and values of Universal Health Services.

Responsibilities
  • Fulfills patient care responsibilities: checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure rooms; assisting patients with walking, transfers, dressing; collecting patient history; performing screenings per provider guidelines; assisting physicians/nurses with procedures; charting; relaying instructions; answering calls and providing pertinent information.
  • Fulfills clerical responsibilities: sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x‑ray reports, hospital notes, referral information; completing forms/requisitions; scheduling appointments; verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; managing charts to ensure information is completed and accurate.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Medical Assistant Certificate of Completion and/or one year experience as a Medical Assistant or Medical Office Specialist preferred
  • Familiarity with medical terminology required
  • Experience with patient check‑in and check‑out process (according to clinic protocol)
  • General medical office procedures knowledge
  • Understand end of day cash balancing and charge reconciliation process (according to clinic protocol)
  • Proficiency in basic computer programs and operating systems, such as Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
