Director of Risk Management Overview
We seek an experienced and proactive Director of Risk Management to lead patient safety, regulatory compliance, and risk reduction strategies for a 350-bed acute care hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada. This key leadership position oversees the hospital’s risk management program, ensuring that all activities support safe, high-quality patient care and compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
The Director serves as a strategic partner to senior leadership and department directors, leading risk assessment, claim management, incident review, and process improvement initiatives. The role is instrumental in fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement across the organization.
Key Responsibilities- Direct and coordinate all risk management and patient safety initiatives for the hospital.
- Oversee claim management functions, including investigation, documentation, and resolution tracking.
- Conduct proactive risk assessments for new services, programs, and operational processes.
- Facilitate root cause analyses and ensure effective implementation of corrective action plans.
- Manage the Patient Safety Council and integrate corporate and facility risk reduction strategies.
- Analyze incident trends and develop data-driven recommendations for improvement.
- Collaborate with clinical and administrative leaders to minimize risk exposure and ensure compliance with state, federal, and accrediting agencies.
- Provide education, consultation, and guidance to leadership and staff on risk mitigation, patient safety, and compliance issues.
- Serve as a key liaison for regulatory surveys and accreditation activities related to risk and safety.
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field required.
- Master’s degree in a healthcare-related field preferred.
- Experience:
- Two (2) to five (5) years of hospital-based risk management experience required; acute care experience preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years of leadership experience in a related field preferred.
- Registered Nurse (RN) background preferred.
- License/Certification:
- Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of healthcare regulations, risk management principles, and patient safety frameworks.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively across clinical and administrative teams.
- Base Salary: $104,620 – $134,412 (commensurate with experience).
- Full-time, exempt position.
