The Information Technology Director for Skin and Cancer Institute is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction for all aspects of the organization’s information technology. This includes overseeing the development and implementation of IT strategies, managing infrastructure and cybersecurity, and maintaining critical systems across both clinical and corporate locations. The IT Director’s primary focus is to ensure the reliability, security, and optimal performance of technology solutions that support patient care, clinical workflows, administrative operations, and the continued growth of the organization.
By guiding IT operations and supervising technical teams, the IT Director drives technological innovation and efficiency throughout the institute. Additionally, the IT Director works closely with senior leadership, acting as an active collaborator within the senior management team. This partnership enables the alignment of technology initiatives with broader business objectives and organizational goals.
Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and execute an enterprise-wide IT strategy aligned with organizational goals and clinical needs.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and technical direction to IT managers, system admins, helpdesk teams, and project staff.
- Oversee the planning and implementation of short- and long-term IT initiatives, ensuring scalability and standardization across all sites.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that improve efficiency, clinical outcomes, and patient experience.
- Oversee the maintenance, security, and optimization of networks, servers, cloud services, and telecommunications.
- Ensure high availability of critical systems including EHR, practice management systems, imaging platforms, laboratory interfaces, and patient engagement tools.
- Direct IT asset management, including asset lifecycle management, licensing, and procurement.
- Accountable for leading and supervising system upgrades, integrations, and data migrations with minimal downtime to clinical operations.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, and healthcare cybersecurity standards.
- Oversee cybersecurity programs including threat monitoring, incident response, vulnerability assessments, and staff training.
- Manage audit preparedness related to IT systems, data protection, maintaining strict adherence to industry and legal requirements.
- Oversee helpdesk operations to guarantee prompt resolution of technical issues and exceptional customer service to clinical and administrative teams.
- Establish and maintain IT policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and disaster recovery plans.
- Conduct periodic site visits to assess technology performance, ensure standardization, and support local teams.
- Manage relationships with vendors, consultants, and technology partners.
- Develop, monitor, and manage IT budgets, ensuring efficient, cost-effective use of resources.
- Track and analyze IT performance metrics, uptime rates, support ticket trends, and project progress.
- Present regular updates to executive leadership on systems performance, cybersecurity posture, and project outcomes.
- In-depth understanding of healthcare IT systems, including EHR platforms, medical imaging systems, cybersecurity frameworks, and healthcare interoperability.
- Strong working knowledge of network infrastructure, cloud environments, database systems, and enterprise software.
- Expertise in IT security, compliance, change management, and disaster recovery planning.
- Excellent leadership and team development skills with experience managing multi-site IT operations.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
- Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across clinical, administrative, and executive teams.
- Ability to manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- In-depth understanding of healthcare IT systems, including EHR platforms, medical imaging systems, cybersecurity frameworks, and healthcare interoperability.
