Job Summary
We are seeking a Technical Moderator to support in-home camera-based data collection programs by managing field devices, troubleshooting technical issues in real time, and providing structured technical reporting. This role works closely with field moderators and engineering teams to ensure smooth data collection sessions and minimize technical disruptions. The ideal candidate has experience supporting live field operations, hardware devices, and Linux-based systems
, with strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to operate in dynamic environments. This is a hands‑on role requiring both technical expertise and field coordination during active data collection sessions.
- Manage on‑site and remote field device operations including camera and laptop setup, calibration, device validation, and pre‑session health checks.
- Ensure all hardware systems are properly configured and operational prior to and during data collection sessions.
- Diagnose and resolve issues with cameras, laptops, storage, and connectivity during live sessions.
- Use Linux/Unix terminal commands, log inspection, and system performance checks to troubleshoot system failures, freezes, or shutdowns.
- Monitor device performance including CPU, memory, and storage usage.
- Document and elevate technical issues with detailed context including system logs, timestamps, scenario references, and performance metrics.
- Work closely with engineering teams to support efficient debugging and issue resolution.
- Support pilot runs and technically complex data collection scenarios.
- Collaborate with non‑technical field moderators during live sessions to prevent disruptions or data quality issues.
- Proactively identify and mitigate technical risks that may result in re‑recording or data rejection.
- Proven experience in field operations and live data collection programs involving hardware devices such as cameras, sensors, or similar equipment.
- Hands‑on experience supporting in‑home, on‑site, or distributed field studies.
- Working knowledge of Linux or Unix systems, including terminal commands and log analysis.
- Basic proficiency with Python, Excel, and Google Sheets.
- Strong hardware troubleshooting skills for cameras, laptops, and peripheral devices.
- Ability to remain calm and make real‑time technical decisions in live environments.
- Experience collaborating with engineering teams for technical issue triage and escalation.
- Familiarity with metadata validation and data quality checks.
- Experience working with remote or distributed field teams.
- Understanding of ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes.
- Maintain minimal session downtime caused by technical issues.
- Deliver clear, structured technical issue reports for engineering teams.
- Improve first‑pass data acceptance rates and reduce re‑runs.
- Ensure smooth execution of technically complex field scenarios.
