This IT Professional III is with the Secretary of State IT Division in Las Vegas. The position is a member of the Systems Administration Team handling day-to-day operational tasks and monitoring of the environment. The role supports all VMware servers and some Linux appliances responsible for critical systems, server uptime, and security monitoring. Applicants must possess journey-level expertise in server, networking, Windows operating system, and security technical knowledge.

The IT Professional III role requires a Bachelors degree from an accredited institution in computer science, management information systems, or a closely related field, and at least three years of professional IT experience, including one year at the journey level. Equivalent experience may include one year as an IT Professional II in Nevada State service or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Responsibilities- Support all VMware servers and Linux appliances responsible for critical systems.
- Maintain server uptime and security monitoring.
- Maintain documentation related to architecture, operations, and other records of work activities.
- Keep current knowledge of technological trends, security management practices, laws, policies, and ethics.
- Participate in recommending and justifying resource allocations, tracking and recording expenditures.
- Prepare purchase requests and write technical requirements for grant proposals.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Train, supervise, and evaluate subordinate staff as applicable.
- Serve as a project or unit leader for IT support, overseeing projects and coordinating with other work groups.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information systems, or a closely related field.
- Three years of professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position, including one year at the journey level.
- Experience as an IT Professional II in Nevada State service for one year, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency with VMware, VLANs, Linux, Group Policy, and Active Directory.
- Journey-level knowledge of server, networking, Windows operating system, and security technical subjects.
- Authorized to work for any employer in the United States; no visa sponsorship available.
- Detailed knowledge of: basic elements of programming; computer operating systems including all functions, schedules, workflows, and processes; data communication networks; principles of operation, capabilities, and limitations of a computer system and related environmental equipment; supervisory principles and techniques.
- Working knowledge of: diagnostic procedures for verifying systems; principles and capabilities of multi-programming computer systems and related equipment.
- General knowledge of: computer programming documentation techniques for setting up and verifying system programs.
- Ability to: analyze and develop current and proposed computer operation procedures; anticipate changes and new directions within the data processing environment; plan, organize, and direct twenty-four hour, seven-day-a-week shift operation of a computer system; understand and apply technical manuals and environmental requirements; maintain effective working relationships.
- Detailed knowledge of: departmental information systems (where applicable).
- Working knowledge of: principles of designing test procedures; principles, practices, and procedures for designing, analyzing, and maintaining software; principles, tools, and techniques for writing and modifying programs; systems programming languages and techniques.
- General knowledge of: capacity planning techniques; performance monitoring principles; telecommunication technology and related systems software; system software interrelationships; vendor procedures for applying maintenance and temporary fixes.
