Position: GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN I/II

About the Role

The Clark County Information Technology Department seeks a Geographic Information Systems Technician I/II to collaborate directly with the Elections Department. This role involves designing detailed maps, maintaining current data, managing the Vote Center web application, processing annexations, and managing voter registration address information. GIS technicians provide customer service to internal departments and the public while ensuring accuracy and compliance with election GIS processes.

Salary

Geographic Information Systems Technician I: $26.70 - $39.50 per hour

Geographic Information Systems Technician II: $28.91 - $42.64 per hour

Training & Promotion

The Technician I position is a training underfill. Upon successful completion of the training program, the candidate will be non‑competitively promoted to Technician II.

Qualifications
  • Education: Associate’s Degree or technical school graduate with coursework in drafting, pre‑engineering, computer science, geographic studies, or a closely related field.
  • Experience: Full‑time experience in digitizing GIS data or working with GIS data may substitute for education on a year‑for‑year basis.
  • Technician II Additional: Minimum of one year of full‑time technical experience in entering data and producing finished documents using a GIS.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Process and digitize data to enter information into the GIS.
  • Create and modify data files by entering electronically converted data into the appropriate database system.
  • Produce cadastral maps, plots, graphic simulations, and manuscript data for use by various county departments and local agencies.
  • Review recorded documentation for right‑of‑way, zoning, and other county agencies to determine valid transfer or division of land; ensure compliance with statutes.
  • Perform manual and visual checks of preliminary data and final products to ensure quality control.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of work performed; update records as procedures change.
  • Make adjustments and perform preventive maintenance on equipment required for data entry and output production; report need for maintenance or repair.
  • Contribute to unit efficiency by offering suggestions and actively participating as part of a work team.
  • Attend training meetings to upgrade GIS knowledge and apply new techniques.
  • Drive a personal or county vehicle, or arrange transportation, to attend off‑site meetings.
  • Drive a motor vehicle to validate road conditions (as needed).
Working Conditions & Physical Demands

Work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations.

Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment. Stamina to remain seated and maintain concentration for an extended period. Vision to read printed materials and computer screen. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.

Licensing and Certifications

State-required: valid Nevada Class C Driver’s License at time of appointment. Certifications must be current at time of application and maintained throughout employment.

Background Investigation

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation and periodic investigations thereafter.
