Part - Time Assistant, Computer Lab Tech, OTS - FY2027 Job Description
The primary role of the Part-Time Assistant/Tech in the Office of Technology Services (OTS) is to provide direct support to students in the computer lab, ensuring a welcoming and productive environment for learning and technology use. Responsibilities include assisting with basic troubleshooting, guiding students through software and system usage, and maintaining lab organization and readiness.
Candidates who demonstrate exceptional work ethic, strong ITknowledge, and technical skills may also be invited to contribute to broader departmental efforts. These contributions may includesupporting front- and back-end systems, participating in technicalprojects, and assisting with departmental initiatives that enhancedigital services across campus.
This paid part-time position reports directly to the manager and/orfull-time technicians, as directed.
On-site training in allprocesses and tools will be provided.
The individual must understand and be committed to the efficient operation of the department while maintaining confidentiality. The individual must take pride in the details of the position and be proficient at prioritizing and handling multiple tasks.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES- Assist in the computer lab front desk with computer station and/or printer issues or questions.
- Troubleshoot basic hardware, software, and network connectivityproblems on campus.
- Configure equipment, inventory assets and peripherals, and maintain basic records of job activities.
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of labs, office, andworkbenches, which may include cleaning, vacuuming, and recyclingboxes and packaging materials.
- Set up and image devices for bench stock and/or support engineers, including assisting with transporting, installing,securing, and cable management of devices in classrooms, labs,and/or staff offices.
- Perform bench stock inventory and reporting of alltechnological and non-technical equipment.
- Assist with asset handling for surplus, salvage, moves, etc.,under the supervision of OTS staff as needed.
- Assist support engineers with customer-facing situations,including troubleshooting and resolving technical issues for faculty, staff, and students in lab and classroom environments(on-site training provided).
- Answer questions and direct students, faculty, and staff to appropriate resources when inquiries are made in person or byphone.
- Must be dependable, punctual, and self-motivated, and able towork with minimal supervision.
- Must demonstrate strong customer service skills (in-personand/or remote), including a positive and professional attitude.
- Knowledge of computers, office applications, and internet usage(additional training will be provided).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel,Outlook, etc.), along with strong writing skills.
- Familiarity with calendar scheduling, internet searching, and document creation/editing.
- Ability to physically transport and maintain equipment,including work under desks.
- Ability to lift and transport 25-50+ lbs. repeatedly throughout the day.
- Must maintain academic standing as required for continued employment.
- Successfully completed IS101 with a grade of C or better (or equivalent coursework; verifiable transcript required).
- Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Word:
Associate Level(verifiable certification required). - Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Excel:
Associate Level(verifiable certification required).
- IT-related certifications such as MTA, CompTIA (A+, Network+,Cloud+, Security+), ACMT, HDI, or equivalent.
- Currently pursuing an IT-related field of study or career path.
- Letter of reference from faculty.
$13.20/per hour
