Spanish, Mexican Dialect Linguist
LocationLas Vegas, NV
Schedule & HoursThis is an as‑needed, part‑time essential services position. When assigned, linguists may work up to 40 hours per week, including day, night, weekend, and holiday shifts.
Classification & PayNon‑exempt, hourly rate of $28.73. Eligible for overtime. Security clearance:
Public Trust required or ability to obtain.
Perform real‑time and recorded transcription from Spanish to English for sensitive law enforcement work. Capture accurate, court‑ready written products, identify slang and coded language, and support law‑enforcement personnel.
Responsibilities- Listen to live or recorded Spanish communications and produce verbal and written synopses and transcriptions as required.
- Communicate pertinent information to the client in a timely manner when supporting live monitoring.
- Build and maintain a master list of slang terms and codes used by a particular group for the duration of the project.
- Build and maintain a voice library for the duration of the project.
- Transcribe and translate calls and documents as assigned.
- Produce court‑ready transcriptions in the required format.
- Use project reference tools and materials to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Transcribe a minimum of 16 minutes of recorded conversation in an 8‑hour day.
- Operate specialized government‑provided software such as JSI voice box, Pen‑link, Comverse, and other communication‑collection tools.
- Maintain a daily productivity log in accordance with project requirements.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum one year of translation experience in Spanish.
- Knowledge of Spanish, Mexican dialect colloquialisms, slang, and regional expressions.
- Familiarity with SMS shorthand, social media terminology, and web chat communications.
- Excellent verbal and written skills in Spanish and English, including accurate grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Score of 3 or better on a third‑party language assessment (listening, speaking, reading, writing) for both languages.
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize, and manage time to meet deadlines.
- Ability to take technical direction and incorporate feedback from multiple sources.
- Typing speed of at least 45 words per minute.
Applicants may be required to obtain and maintain Public Trust eligibility. Conditions include favorable credit check, background investigation, drug screening, U.S. citizenship or permanent residency, and residence in the U.S. for at least 3 of the past 5 years.

- Lifting/pulling/pushing: 0%‑10% of the time.
- Fingering/grasping/feeling: write, type, and use a telephone system for extended periods.
- Sitting for prolonged periods while monitoring calls; ability to leave the desk may be restricted during live monitoring.
