Job DescriptionThe buyer acts under the authority of the Vice President of Purchasing. Purchase a variety of items, which require technical analysis and discretion, through either informal purchasing methods or formally negotiated contract techniques; performs related work as required.
Job FocusFocus is on, but not limited to the following:
- Identify product specifications for items and services.
- Must be familiar with various resources to source products for purchase.
- Solicit bids on items from sources of supply in order to determine a reasonable price, acceptable pack size, available discounts, and transportation or handling charges.
- Knowledge of purchasing methods and procedures including open market purchasing and formal contracting and negotiating techniques.
- Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers regarding product specifications.
- Must be committed to quality customer service with internal and external guests.
- Ability to deal skillfully and tactfully with suppliers, to ensure adequate and timely response to operational purchasing needs.
- Prepare and process requisitions and purchase orders for supplies and equipment.
- Review purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy.
- Resolve vendor grievances and claims.
- Gather and analyze data, study sales and inventory records, identify suppliers, and stay on top of factors affecting supply and demand to forecast current and future costs of needed products and materials.
- Identify and interview potential suppliers to determine quality, price, reliability, and delivery terms, and make decisions to ensure that needed supplies arrive in time and at the right price.
- Recommends substitutions for appropriate considerations, requests and analyzes quotes from vendors for unusual items.
- Performs all other related and compatible duties as assigned by the Director of Purchasing.
- At least 3 to 5 years’ experience as a buyer for a Resort/Casino.
- Previous experience with Stratton Warren is required.
- Excellent computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) and knowledge of front of house casino operations as related to Purchasing/Inventory/Warehouse/F&B.
- Excellent communication skills, customer service and team oriented, self-starter, and professional maturity.
- Strong organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills and exhibit composure and professionalism while under pressure.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while meeting constant deadlines and maintaining strong attention to details.
