Position Summary

The Supervisor of Shelter Operations is responsible for leading Emergency Shelter operations, and for ensuring the Emergency Shelter operates under Housing First principles. Working under the direct supervision of the Manager of Shelter Operations the Supervisor of Emergency Shelter Operations provides logistical oversight and leadership for all of the Emergency Shelter programs, and supports the Manager of Emergency Shelter Operations in ensuring the protection of personnel, property, information and visitors to the shelter.

  • Under the direct supervision of the Manager, the Supervisor provides leadership and direction for the Emergency Shelter Operations Team.
  • Promote and instill a culture of inclusiveness, high performance, and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
  • Ensures policies, procedures, and processes to lead the emergency shelter operations team in accordance with the current emergency shelter contract. This includes operating under Housing First principles, operating as a low barrier emergency shelter, following equal access rules, and principles of harm reduction.
  • Ensures effective team scheduling and coverage for emergency shelter operations, while managing manpower requirements as economically as possible.
  • Assist in leading the coordination of emergency shelter procedures with other departments and agencies as needed.
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of emergency shelter diversion process and the emergency shelter queue process, to include enrollment into the emergency shelter.
  • Act as a liaison to the Emergency Shelter queue and provider partners/matchers.
  • Prepare daily, weekly and monthly reports to the Manager of Emergency Shelter Operations to include project updates, campus activities affecting the emergency shelter, any requested data and all ad-hoc reports.
  • Protect all confidential information, Agency property and electronic data. Comply with safety rules.
  • All other duties as required.

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders, including clients, colleagues, volunteers, law enforcement and others within Non-Profit Industry.
  • Ability to work in a variety of settings with culturally diverse groups, and be culturally sensitive and appropriate.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with the public.
  • Ability to supervise multiple projects with attention to detail, handle interruptions; maintain focus on tasks and produce accurate work, correctly prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
