Job Description

Summary
. This position manages all workflow in the specified department, assisting the Department Supervisor in overseeing, assigning, following up on, and checking work, and participating in the production or other production support segment of operations. The objective is to serve as a coach and facilitator to a group responsible for continuous and efficient production in the desired quantity and quality according to customer requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of the Department Supervisor, assigns and directs workers in the group with respect to production volume, cost and quality, and meeting production goals and delivery dates.
  • Assists in achieving maximum efficiency and productivity of group personnel.
  • Encourages efficient utilization of equipment and facilities, ensuring the work group has necessary resources.
  • Works with Supervisor and group members to develop plans for fulfilling orders according to customer requirements and updates the group on pertinent delivery information.
  • Performs continuous quality control inspections of own work and co‑workers during normal operations.
  • Assists in maintaining compliance with company policies, safety standards, and good housekeeping practices.
  • Maintains work area, equipment and supplies in a neat and orderly fashion; directs co‑workers to do the same.
  • Assists in training the work group, identifying training needs, and providing technical assistance when necessary; facilitates group process in meetings and daily operations.
  • Provides feedback and coaching to the group.
  • Assists in developing individual group members in process, team dynamics, basic quality tools, and problem‑solving models and techniques.
  • Guides the work group's problem‑solving process toward continuous improvement of quality and productivity measures, and advises the group of organizational changes that may affect their processes, including new members orientation.
  • Builds rapport with other departments as necessary.
  • Refers unusual conditions or non‑routine problems to Supervisor.
  • Conveys materials from storage or work sites to designated area and coordinates flow of materials or products with other department supervisors.
  • Operates an industrial truck or electric hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
  • Works with planner for daily workload distribution to the production floor.
  • Resolves issues on the floor (shop orders, material problems, notes, quantities).
  • Assists with Final QC and backs up other departments as necessary.
Qualities and Qualifications
  • Mathematical Skills
    . Solve problems that require one or two operations. Multiply negative numbers. Calculate averages, simple ratios, proportions, or rates using whole numbers and decimals. Add fractions, decimals, and percentages. Handle mixed numbers with whole numbers or decimals.
  • Computer Skills
    . Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Other

    Skills and Abilities

    . Able to operate and/or use the following instruments and equipment: utility knife, industrial staple gun, industrial glue gun. Must be able to read machine gauges and interpret readings.
  • Other qualifications as applicable.
Physical Demands
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs frequently.
  • Able to stand and walk on concrete floor constantly.
  • Manual dexterity required for using various tools such as calipers, wrenches, and screwdrivers.
  • Able to reach at full arm’s length a distance of 0 to 36 inches in varying directions, including upward to eye level frequently.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
