Email Marketing Manager

Full-Time, Exempt

The Email Marketing Manager is responsible for managing daily strategy and execution for sales communication to the Smith Center database to drive institutional objectives, show marketing, brand awareness, and customer retention. Reporting to the Director, Digital Marketing and CRM, this position develops, implements, tracks, and optimizes all database communication. The role requires a robust understanding of space and its trends, applying best practices to deliver measurable results.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide art and copy direction for email communication, leverage existing templates, create new designs as needed, and manage the template library.
  • Oversee creation, scheduling, and production of regular email marketing campaigns by working cross‑departmentally, making revisions, and gaining approvals as appropriate.
  • Proof all communications for messaging and functionality, acting as the final checkpoint across all channels.
  • Establish and enforce design standards for email and database communication, strengthening the Smith Center voice and improving reputation among targeted segments.
  • Pull lists from the CRM as needed to verify and proof data.
  • Build and test automations for functionality and messaging in collaboration with the Director, Digital Marketing and CRM.
  • Drive strategy and implementation of individual show marketing communication planning, maximizing ticket sales.
  • Maintain and plan the communication calendar, including segmentation recommendations.
  • Develop an SMS strategy to build the SMS database, track sales, and improve existing processes.
  • Grow the email list and add genre tags to accounts for better targeting.
  • Work closely with other marketing team members to develop and analyze ongoing reports yielding qualitative and quantitative trends.
  • Manage deliverability tools and monitoring to ensure best practices and email penetration.
  • Own the ESP relationship, maximizing platform, automation opportunities, and troubleshooting, acting as the Smith Center’s “super user” with Prospect 2/Active Campaign.
  • Maintain continuing knowledge of best practices across email, SMS, and other digital channels.
  • Stay current with performing‑arts organizations and drive improvements for innovation and technology in database communication.
  • As needed: update the website on a timely basis and serve as backup for event creation on the Smith Center website using Umbraco and Tessitura.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
Required Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing or communications.
  • Five or more years of experience in direct marketing and communications, including email creation, deployment, and list segmentation.
  • Five years of management experience over CRM digital teams and/or organizational CRM digital strategy, programming, and budgeting.
  • Strong proficiency with an email service provider such as Active Campaign.
  • Administrative experience with a customer database such as Tessitura.
  • Experience in email design and layout to maximize patron response.
  • Knowledge of the performing‑arts and entertainment industry is a plus.
  • Strong project management experience.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of the performing‑arts mission of The Smith Center.

Computer Skills
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, including Excel for data manipulation and reporting, and PowerPoint for presentations.
