Overview
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) at University of Southern California (USC) in the Convenience Care program is responsible for providing high‑quality, evidence‑based clinical care, leading inter‑professional teams, and advancing the practice of nursing. The NP performs physical examinations, orders and interprets diagnostic tests, performs procedures within the scope of practice, and develops and implements treatment plans. The role also involves leadership in clinical operations, staffing, scheduling, and professional education.
Responsibilities- Perform and order diagnostic studies and interpret results.
- Develop and implement short‑ and long‑term treatment plans.
- Perform procedures such as specimen collection, injections, immunizations, skin biopsies, suturing, and wound care.
- Write medication orders subject to physician checking and counter‑signing.
- Initiate consultations and coordinate patient scheduling for specialty services.
- Maintain patient records, update charts, and notify physicians of changes in patient status.
- Educate and counsel patients and families on preventive care, medical and psychological issues, and prescribed treatments.
- Act as liaison with governmental agencies (e.g., CDC, NIH).
- Assist in research projects, obtain IRB approval, and study protocols.
- Refer patients to appropriate community resources based on medical needs.
- Maintain compliance with institutional policies, quality assurance, safety, infection control, and accreditation requirements.
- Participate in in‑service education and professional associations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited school.
- At least 5 years of clinical nursing experience.
- Excellent communication skills in English (speaking, reading, writing).
- Knowledge of medical procedures and conditions; ability to perform duties successfully.
- Bilingual in Spanish; ability to communicate effectively with Spanish‑speaking patients.
- Registered Nurse (RN) license from the Nevada State Board of Nursing (NV NSBN).
- Nurse Practitioner (NP) license from the Nevada State Board of Nursing.
- NP board certification in one of the following: ACNP, ANP, FNP, or AGNP.
- DEA certificate for Schedule II‑V controlled substances (unrestricted, Nevada address).
- Valid Nevada Board of Pharmacy license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Advanced Radiology Life Support (ARLS) certification required on hire or within 30 days.
- USC Credentialing obtained within 6 months of hire (will credential with physicians, PAs, or NPs for up to six months).
- Fire Life Safety Training (Los Angeles City); required within 30 days of hire if no card is held.
