This position is within an academic medical center that provides life-saving treatment in Southern Nevada. Position

Summary

Functions as a charge nurse responsible for assigning patients to and monitoring the work of nurses within the unit on the assigned shift and to assist the Clinical Manager in the supervision of assigned employees on shift. The position also carries a patient load and applies the nursing process to deliver basic, safe, therapeutic care, for individuals or groups of patients.

Job Requirements

Education/

Experience:

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and three (3) years of clinical nursing experience.

Licensing/Certification Requirements: Valid License by the Nevada State Board of Nursing to Practice as a Registered Nurse, and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification accepted by the American Heart Association (AHA). Certification in Specialty Area may be required in some positions. Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Trauma Nurse Core Certification, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation Protocol may be required in some positions.

Preferences
  • Minimum of two (2) years of recent Trauma ICU RN experience in a similar facility
  • Minimum one (1) year of charge nurse, relief charge nurse or supervisor experience in ICU
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and

Physical Requirements

Knowledge: Modern principles of effective supervision; nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation and coordination of patient care); standards of care; disease process; equipment used in providing patient care in specialty area; patient care plan development; patient evaluation and assessment techniques; body mechanics used with ambulating, transferring and repositioning patients;
Nurse Practice Act; department and hospital safety practices and procedures; patient rights; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures; age specific patient care practices.

Skill: Assigning and monitoring the work of others; assigning work to cover patients' needs; evaluating quality control; implementing nursing process including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation; working with high risk or critically ill patients; performing invasive nursing procedures; developing and implementing education programs; organizing, prioritizing and delegating work; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds under stressful conditions;

establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.



Physical Requirements and

Working Conditions:

Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting, including stamina to stand and walk for extended periods, strength to examine and treat varied individuals, vision to use standard office equipment and read printed materials including a VDT screen, and hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently to move objects.
