Position: Acute Care Nurse Practitioner - Wound Care *INTERNAL ONLY*

Job Responsibilities

The Acute Care Nurse Practitioner is part of the multidisciplinary team, overseeing and managing acute patients and working closely with hospitalists, emergency physicians, subspecialists, and support staff. Care will include performing history and physical examinations, developing a differential and working diagnosis, ordering laboratory and diagnostic studies and images, performing procedures within scope of practice, developing and ordering treatment plans; providing patient and family education, ordering medications, and referring patients for specialty consultations as indicated.

Incumbents in this class work independently under the general direction of a physician pursuant to state statute.

Job Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and two (2) years of related clinical nursing experience.
  • Valid State of Nevada License to Practice as a Registered Nurse, State of Nevada License to Practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse, State of Nevada Pharmacy Board License to Prescribe Medications, DEA Controlled Substance Registration Certificate, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification accepted by the American Heart Association (AHA). Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • Recent documented Wound and Burn Care experience.
  • Wound Care certification preferred.
  • Certified licensed Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).
  • Family Nurse Practitioner (family NP) experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Anatomy and physiology; chemistry; microbiology; age‑appropriate growth and development; pathophysiology and disease processes; current standards of medical and health care; limitations of the scope of practice; diagnostic tools; pharmacology; department and hospital safety practices and procedures; patient rights; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures; age-specific patient care practices.

Diagnosing patient conditions and interpreting findings from examination and diagnostic tests; performing complete physical examinations; taking medical histories; writing information in the patient’s chart; oral communication with patient to obtain information and convey health information; communicating effectively with a wide variety of patients from diverse socio‑economic and ethnic backgrounds; using a variety of diagnostic tools, depending upon area of specialization; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting and use standard equipment, stamina to remain standing and/or walk for extended periods of time, vision to read instruments, printed materials and a VDT screen, hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
