Career Opportunity:
The city of Las Vegas Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs department invites applications for Assistant. This is an hourly entry-level, part-time position. Scheduled hours are limited to 19 hours or less per week, with shifts varying based on program and facility needs. Hourly employees are limited to 1,560 hours of work within any 18-month period.
Supervision Received
Receives general supervision from higher-level classified, supervisory, or management staff.
This recruitment aims to establish an eligible list for current and/or future part-time openings.
SELECTION PROCESS:
The process includes application review, interviews for the most qualified candidates, and possibly a hiring interview. Employment offers require passing a pre-employment drug test and background check, with some positions needing preliminary checks.
Eligible applicants will be contacted via phone or email if progressing to the interview stage. Unsuccessful applicants will have their applications remain active for four months.
Essential Functions:
- Assist facility staff, including full-time employees, senior or lead hourly staff, and program instructors. Tasks include setting up/taking down equipment, clerical duties, food prep, supply requests, and cleaning within the facility and around its perimeter. Assistance extends to event/program units, Floyd Lamb Park, and mobile recreation units.
- Customer service duties such as interacting with customers/participants, registering participants via software, creating accounts, processing payments, preparing deposits, distributing promotional materials, and referring upset customers to full-time staff.
- Monitoring duties including observing and reporting inappropriate behavior, inspecting safety concerns, reporting accidents or injuries, ensuring check-in procedures, and supervising guests at events and recreation units.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum age of 16 years
- Physical agility to demonstrate and maintain sports and recreational activities, move equipment, and ensure safety
- Ability to read and write at a level necessary for the job
- Experience working with people with disabilities is required when assigned to Adaptive Recreation
- First Aid/CPR/AED certifications are preferred but not mandatory
- Basic computer skills required
- Cash handling skills and bilingual abilities are desirable but not required
