The Bike Security Officer protects the property of The Smith Center (TSC) from theft, damage, hazards, and interference. They conduct regular patrols, monitor entrances and exits, enforce regulations, and provide outstanding customer service to guests and staff, ensuring a safe and friendly environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Ride a bike for extended periods year‑round.
- Control access to the facility, assist legitimate visitors, and screen employees efficiently.
- Maintain a courteous and professional atmosphere for staff and visitors.
- Communicate openly and honestly; provide information about the facility as authorized.
- Monitor entrances, prevent unlawful entry, operate gates, examine vehicle contents, and oversee remote entrances via CCTV.
- Patrol the site on foot or bicycle, checking for unsafe conditions, hazards, locks, security violations, and unauthorized persons.
- Prepare logs or reports; type or enter information into computers in standard grammar.
- Report incidents or suspicious activity to management, life/safety personnel, or public safety authorities.
- Respond to emergencies promptly and following SOPs.
- Drive a motor vehicle as required for incident response and equipment transport.
- Perform any other duties within the scope of the position.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Two or more years of experience in law enforcement, security, EMT, or hospitality.
Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum age 21 or turning 21 within 30 days of employment.
- Successful completion of a background check and pre‑employment drug screening.
- Proficient reading, writing, and oral communication in English;
Spanish a plus. - Independent work, prioritization, and project management skills.
- Adaptability to fast‑paced environments.
- Confidentiality, diplomacy, and judgment in all interactions.
- Ability to handle stressful situations, negotiate and resolve conflicts.
- Professional appearance and demeanor.
- High discretion and sensitivity.
- Availability to work varied shifts, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Office 365.
PhysicalJob Requirements
- Regularly lift, move, carry, push, and pull 40 lbs or more.
- Stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods, including on uneven surfaces or stairs.
- Use finger dexterity for typing; occasional bending, twisting, and kneeling.
- Operate and navigate bicycles, motorized carts, or other mobility devices safely.
- Operate a two‑way radio for extended periods, monitoring traffic and responding promptly.
- Handle extreme weather conditions during patrols.
- Operate a computer, keyboard, and mouse; handle office equipment.
- Submit to pre‑employment controlled‑substance screening.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean record.
- Valid TAM Card (Alcohol Awareness Certification).
- Valid First Aid/CPR/AED Certification.
- Compliance with all state, county, and municipal licensing for Security Officers.
