ROLE of the POSITION

UPD is conducting a continuous recruitment for current and future openings for Community Service Officers (CSO). Positions may be assigned to any campus to include the College of Southern Nevada, Desert Research Institute, Nevada State College, and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Under direction of the Community Service Supervisor, this position will perform a variety of security related tasks for various NSHE campuses under UPD, Southern Command.

PROFILE

The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) was established in 1865 and is currently comprised of two doctoral-granting universities, a state college, four comprehensive community colleges and one environmental research institute. The public system of higher education in Nevada is governed by the Board of Regents serving over 100,000 students and 15,000 employees.

UPD, Southern Command, is a full service category I law enforcement agency that serves the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, the College of Southern Nevada, the Desert Research Institute and Nevada State College. The department consists of 120 employees and has responsibility for the public safety needs of 80,000 students, faculty and staff over an 800 square mile service area. Law enforcement operations consists of full and part time sworn peace officers, a full service 9-1-1 Center, K-9 operations;

emergency management operations with a fully functional EOC and oversight of major special events hosting more than a million visitors a year to various events.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

CSO responsibilities will include but not be limited to providing security for State buildings and grounds; providing protective services to buildings and occupants; enforcing applicable laws, rules, regulations and policies; maintaining security of assigned buildings or facilities and surrounding property by conducting visual surveillance through camera monitors or direct observation; monitoring State/NSHE property, displays and individuals entering and leaving buildings and take appropriate action according to department policy.

Patrolling buildings and grounds, checking windows, locks, doors and security systems for damage or possible breach of security; following established procedures and guidelines when security or safety violations occur and other general duties as assigned.
