Role of the PositionThe Maintenance Repair Worker 3 performs semi-skilled carpentry and welding work to construct, maintain, repair, and modify facilities, fixtures, furniture and woodwork; reviews plans and specifications; lays out projects in accordance with code requirements and purchases appropriate materials.
Working knowledge expected in: building and construction codes; safety practices; budget preparation; materials, tools and equipment used to maintain buildings; project management; all assigned craft trades (including carpentry, roofing, welding, automatic door technician, glazier); and the methods/techniques used in maintenance, construction, retrofitting, and fabrication.
Successful candidates will have at least 2 years of experience working in two or more trades.
- Ability to analyze problems and offer alternative solutions.
- Ability to count accurately and perform mathematical calculations.
- Ability to operate common office equipment and machinery (computer, printer, scanner, photocopier, fax) on a continuous basis during a 10-hour work shift.
- Ability to speak, read and write English.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
- Specific vision abilities required: close, distant and peripheral vision; color distinction; depth perception.
- Continuous finger dexterity; hand-to-finger coordination.
- Ability to work in environments with moderate to loud noise levels.
- Ability to climb and descend stairs, and to work from a ladder frequently.
- Ability to work alternate shifts if required.
- Ability to work in extreme conditions (heat, cold, loud, dusty, stressful).
- Ability to work in confined spaces.
- Ability to work from ladders, scaffolding and a man lift.
- Occasional lifting to 75 pounds or more; frequent lifting up to 35 pounds with occasional carrying up to 75 pounds.
- Frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, squatting and twisting; continuous standing/walking/sitting during a 10-hour shift.
Valid Nevada class C driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
The schedule is Monday–Thursday, 5:00 am to 3:30 pm, subject to change based on University and Department needs.
Minimum QualificationsTwo years of experience performing semi-skilled work in the relevant building and/or mechanical trades; OR one year of experience as a Maintenance Repair Worker II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Valid Nevada class C driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.

Salary and BenefitsSalary:
Grade 27, Step 1, salary $48,024.00. Initial appointments typically begin at Step 1 of the assigned grade. A Step refers to the specific rate of pay within a grade as determined by the Division of Human Resources.
