What You Can Expect as an Aircraft Interior Technician at West StarAs an Aircraft Interior Technician, you will be based at one of our Fleet or Service Hubs and work on sophisticated private aircraft. Duties may include the removal and installation of carpeting, insulation, soundproofing, and fabric accessories; parts replacement and repair; basic electrical installation; modifications; refurbishments; and general mechanical applications on aircraft interiors. Task scope is determined by the Interior Team Leader.
Key Responsibilities- Perform general mechanical tasks on aircraft interiors and related systems.
- Perform troubleshooting and repairs on damaged or worn interior components.
- Make minor modifications to panels, seats, carpets, cabinetry, upholstery, etc.
- Measure, cut, and fit materials such as leather, fabric, and composites for interior refurbishments.
- Assist in aircraft detailing and cleaning.
- Maintain and repair shop facility, equipment, and tooling.
- Demonstrate basic computer skills to navigate electronic training materials, manuals, and maintenance databases.
- Ensure cleanliness of the shop and surrounding areas.
- Work independently when required.
- Effectively communicate in English (speaking, writing, reading).
- Perform any other job‑related duties as assigned by a supervisor or management.
A high school diploma or equivalent.
Experience5+ years of experience working on private aviation interiors is preferred.
Skills & AttributesTeam players who are self‑motivated and able to perform in a fast‑paced environment with specific deadlines and time constraints. Reliable transportation for daily commute. Availability for overtime and weekend assignments. Ability to follow FAA guidelines, company and safety rules, maintain customer‑oriented work habits, and assist in major modification work as needed.
Physical Requirements- Lift and carry at least 70 lbs.
- Routine walking, bending, squatting, or sitting.
- Work on elevated platforms up to 40 feet using fall protection safety gear.
- Engage in routine or repetitive motions with arms and hands, emphasizing grasping, feeling, and finger dexterity.
- Stand for long periods.
- Climb ladders and stairs, working in small, restricted areas.
- Understand and implement regulations and guidelines including OSHA and Hazmat.
- Work professionally with others.
- Plan and organize procedures and operations.
- Read reports and blueprints.
The majority of work will be performed in a hangar or shop environment that may have extreme temperatures, from hot to cold. Work may be outside on the ramp on occasion and in varied positions in and around the aircraft.
Equipment Used- Personal hand tools supplied by the mechanic.
- Electrical power tools such as sanders, saws, power drills, etc.
- Sheet metal cutters, glue guns, and metal benders.
- Tugs, power carts, and other engine‑powered equipment.
- Spray booth and all related equipment.
Hourly rate ranges between $25.00 - $40.00, varying by location, experience, and performance. Additional compensation may include shift differential for alternate shifts. The package also includes a semi‑annual discretionary bonus, 401(k) company match, and employer contributions to a Health Savings Account (HSA).
