ResponsibilitiesJob Summary
The Journeyman – Refrigeration is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing refrigeration systems and equipment, following customer specifications, applicable building code and proper piping practices.
- Install refrigeration systems, including components such as compressors, evaporators, condensers, and piping, according to technical specifications and industry codes.
- Perform regular maintenance tasks such as cleaning, lubricating, and inspecting refrigeration systems to ensure optimal functioning and extend their service life.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot refrigeration system failures and perform necessary repairs, including replacing defective components or recharging refrigerants.
- Use diagnostic tools and techniques to assess system performance and identify potential problems before they become critical.
- Ensure that all work complies with local, state, and federal regulations, including environmental laws governing refrigerants and safety standards.
- Provide exceptional customer service by explaining issues, recommending solutions, and offering maintenance advice to clients.
- Maintain accurate records of service and maintenance performed, including parts used, labor, and system conditions.
- Respond to emergency service calls during non‑business hours as needed, especially for high‑priority refrigeration systems such as those in food storage or medical facilities.
- Work closely with other technicians, engineers, and project managers to ensure successful installations and repairs.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED, equivalent work experience and trade or technical school classes.
- EPA Certification (Type II).
Work Experience
- 3+ years of experience in the construction industry, preferred; hands‑on field experience in commercial refrigeration, electrical and/or fixtures construction.
- Experience in copper brazing and market remodeling.
- Good driving record and valid driver’s license.
- Knowledge of electrical systems and ability to wire installations.
- Knowledge of carpentry.
- Knowledge of refrigeration systems and piping of refrigeration equipment.
- Knowledge of plumbing and pipe fittings, and ability to pipe refrigeration equipment.
- Knowledge of and ability to read blueprints for refrigeration, electrical, and plumbing.
- Ability to hang evaporation coils and install overhead hangers.
- Ability to use hand and power tools and good mechanical skills.
- Knowledge of jobsite safety and ability to oversee work activities to ensure safe work practices and compliance with safety rules.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to understand and follow all company policies and procedures and all applicable state and federal laws.
- Ability to use typical business tools including e‑mail, Word, Excel, etc.
Work typically occurs in convenience stores, grocery stores, food service and/or construction environments, requiring work at heights from ladders and/or scissor lifts. Mechanical rooms can have elevated noise levels. The position regularly works near/with refrigeration/HVAC equipment that can expose workers to extreme cold from refrigerants and high heat from brazing operations.
