Automotive and Equipment Technician
The Clark County Department of Aviation (DOA) is seeking qualified candidates for the Automotive and Equipment Technician I/II position. The position works in conjunction with various DOA divisions, along with other technicians and specialists, to ensure that support vehicles and equipment continue to operate smoothly and efficiently for all airport activities. Tasks include maintaining, repairing, and overhauling automobiles, heavy and light trucks, construction equipment, small gasoline engines, and stationary equipment, as well as operating a variety of hand, power, and shop tools.

Job Levels and SalaryAutomotive and Equipment Technician I: $26.00 - $38.46 Hourly
Automotive and Equipment Technician II
: $28.15 - $41.52 Hourly
Level I: High school graduation and three (3) years of full-time automotive equipment services and repair work. A recognized apprenticeship in the automotive trade may replace the required experience.
Level II: In addition to Level I qualifications, a minimum of one (1) year of journey-level experience in maintenance and repair of vehicles and/or heavy construction equipment. Additional experience may replace the apprenticeship on a year-for-year basis. Attendance at a recognized trade school is desirable.
Responsibilities- Diagnoses and may perform major repairs and overhauls to gasoline and diesel engines, involving inspection and replacement of broken or worn parts such as pistons, piston rings, valves, bearings, fittings and gaskets.
- Diagnoses and repairs, cleans, adjusts and installs fuel, ignition, electrical, electronic and cooling systems involving repair and replacement of such parts as carburetors and fuel pumps, starter motors, distributors, generators, voltage regulators, wiring, switches, batteries, and radiators, thermostats and water pumps.
- Diagnoses and repairs and overhauls power transmission systems including such parts as clutches, standard transmissions, differential units, front and rear axles, gears, bearings, universal joints and hydraulic units; diagnoses and repairs and adjusts steering mechanisms and other controls.
- Road tests vehicles; drives trucks or equipment as required; inspects vehicles in the shop and field; smog checks and certifies vehicles. Installs and tests electrical systems in vehicles as necessary; modifies such systems as required.
- Diagnoses and performs electrical, hydraulic and other repairs in the field.
- Performs preventive maintenance work on construction equipment, heavy trucks, street sweepers, automobiles, light trucks and other equipment.
- Reads and interprets manuals, drawings, and specifications; estimates labor, material and equipment and orders parts required to complete assignments.
- Diagnoses, repairs and maintains vehicle air brakes, hydraulic systems and associated power take-off equipment.
- Observes safe work methods and utilizes safety equipment related to the work.
- May road test and/or regularly operate heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
- Uses and performs minor maintenance on hand, power and shop tools and test equipment related to the work.
- Makes oral and written reports of work performed; completes forms and maintains accurate maintenance records using an automated fleet information system.
Work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations. Exposure to potentially hazardous fuels, oils, and solvents. May be required to operate heavier equipment and be on duty while traveling.
Licensing and CertificationMust possess a valid Nevada Class C drivers license at time of appointment; certain positions may require a Class A license with endorsements required for heavy-duty vehicle operation and road testing.
