ResponsibilitiesJob Summary
The Service Tech 2 – Refrigeration is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing refrigeration systems. They are expected to handle complex technical issues, provide guidance to junior technicians, and ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of refrigeration equipment for commercial or industrial clients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Ability to report to work in a timely manner as scheduled by supervisor.
- Repair and overhaul equipment such as compressors, water pumps, air handlers, electrical and mechanical control devices and other similar machinery.
- Test malfunctioning systems and components using electrical and/or mechanical skills.
- Maintain legible corporate and personal records of work history.
- Provide general repair work on refrigeration, heating and ventilation equipment such as air conditioning units, evaporative condensers, ice machine equipment, water pumps, gas furnaces, compressors and electric motors.
- Provide preventative maintenance activities; diagnose equipment malfunctions and operating efficiency of mechanical equipment.
- Perform work on minor construction and remodeling projects including startups of new installations.
- Embodies the Cool Sys CARES culture (Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Empowerment, Safety).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements Education / Training
- High school diploma or GED, equivalent work experience and trade or technical school classes.
- Must have passed Tech Skills level 2 with an 80% or better.
- Valid EPA certificate.
- 0-2 year's experience in commercial HVAC, refrigeration, and electrical required.
- Basic knowledge of refrigeration, HVAC, ice machines, gas furnaces, and electrical.
- Ability to read and interpret an electrical schematic diagram.
- Ability to read and interpret an electrical wiring diagram.
- Ability to demonstrate the proper use of a multimeter.
- Ability to demonstrate pipe measuring techniques.
- Ability to demonstrate tube cutter operation.
- Ability to explain proper PPE and safety equipment.
- Ability to demonstrate tube bending operation.
- Ability to demonstrate pipe insulation.
- Ability to demonstrate how to make a flared joint.
- Ability to demonstrate proper PPE and safety equipment.
- Ability to demonstrate how to properly set up, light, and shut off an oxyacetylene torch.
- Ability to demonstrate how to braze and solder a joint.
- Ability to demonstrate how to determine superheat and how to set expansion valve superheat.
- Ability to properly hook up a gauge set to evacuate, charge, pump down and purge a system.
- Ability to demonstrate how to properly set up a gauge set and recovery unit to recover refrigerant.
- Understanding of work order, logbook, timecard, and refrigerant form.
- Ability to demonstrate the use of refrigerant leak detector.
- Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. with no assistance and be able to sit and/or stand for several hours at a time.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Good driving record.
- Ability to understand and follow all company policies and procedures and all applicable State and Federal laws.
