Introduction:
Human Resources will screen applications and supplemental questionnaires. The successful candidate may be required to pass a job-related physical evaluation.
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills associated with routine to complex installation and/or maintenance activities on Optical and Ethernet transport equipment, network structured cabling, 48
VDC battery power plants, and OSP Cable splicing & restoration; be proficient in diagnosing and troubleshooting complex network problems/trouble tickets involving inside/outside plant fiber, DC power, network transport systems, and associated equipment using industry standard test equipment and procedures. The ideal candidate will be adept in learning new technologies that are added to the network to meet customer needs.
Under direction, performs a wide variety of highly skilled technical duties in the design, construction, assembly, installation, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of large, complex and state-of-the-art voice and data communications systems, equipment and facilities, including SNWS's SCADA system; and performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsKnowledge of:
Principles of electricity and electronic theory relating to signal, control, telephone, telephone carrier, radio, video, noise monitoring, public address, telemetering, microwave, data transmission systems and electronic test equipment; common sources of trouble in and the methods of servicing and repairing all types of control, signal, public address, telemetering, telephone, noise monitoring, microwave and other data transmission, radio, video and equipment;
test equipment, tools and materials employed in the construction, servicing, installation and repair of such systems and equipment; safety precautions and hazards involved in working on or installing energized lines and equipment and of the necessary safety principles and practices;
Federal Communications Commission regulations pertaining to the operation and maintenance of industrial radio services communications systems.
Ability to:
Locate and trace trouble in all types of electronic control, signal, public address, radio, video, telephone, telephone carrier, microwave, noise monitoring, telemetry, and data transmission system, electronic test equipment and related equipment; use electronic test equipment, tools and materials employed in constructing, servicing, installing and repairing such systems and equipment; adapt established practices, procedures and principles of electrical and electronic circuitry to particular problems, conditions and service needs of such systems and equipment;
deal tactfully and effectively with officials and the public; keep records and make reports; understand and work from communication plans, schematic diagrams, sketches, drawings, and oral and written instructions; prepare diagrams and sketches; climb poles and antenna towers.
Training and
Experience:
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is three years of journey-level experience in the construction, assembly, troubleshooting, testing and repair of a wide variety of electronic communications systems, equipment, devices and facilities; or successful completion of a two-year program in electronics at a recognized college or trade school, plus one year of closely related experience;
or completion of a military electronics technician course of 24 weeks or longer, plus one year of closely related experience.

Special Requirements: A valid Nevada driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's Vehicle Insurance Policy.
State of Nevada Division of Environmental Protection Distribution Operator's Grade I and Nevada State Health Division Treatment Operator I certification desirable;
Some positions may require a valid Radiotelegraph or Radio Telephone General Class Operator's License issued by the Federal Communications Commission.
