UXO Technician III

Amentum is seeking a UXO Technician III for its NTTR South location.

Provide technical oversight, support, and set standards for UXO and support personnel conducting range clearance operations, including unexploded ordnance (UXO)-related operations. Assigned tasks include ordnance response projects, reconnaissance, classification, disposal, transport, and storage of UXO complying with Federal, state, and local laws.

• Investigate for and identify MEC (Munitions and Explosives of Concern) and MPPEH (Material Potentially Presenting an Explosive Hazard), including explosive residues in media (soil, oil, etc.) on range, targets, target elements, buildings, and installed equipment.
• Identify different types of military munitions, including whether a munition’s fuse is armed or unarmed.
• Perform on‑site demilitarization of MEC and handling of demolition materials.
• Inspect munitions, components, and targets for explosive hazards.
• Supervise personnel assisting in range clearances to ensure hazardous items are not inadvertently moved or removed.
• Inspect MPPEH in accordance with DoDI 4140.62 to identify and remove MDEH before declaration as MDAS.
• Ensure compliance with a DoD Military Service‑ and/or DDESB‑approved site plans.
• Supervise and perform on‑site destruction or demilitarization of MEC in place or at a consolidated detonation site, determining safe initiation and required engineering controls.
• Prepare explosives storage plans per all applicable guidance.
• Prepare required UXO munition response actions and/or range maintenance administrative reports.
• Prepare standard operating procedures for on‑site munition responses and/or range clearance activities.
• Assist in preparation of risk and hazard analyses.
• Conduct daily site safety briefings.
• Supervise all on‑site UXO‑related operations.
• Inspect and certify MPPEH as safe or hazardous for transfer within the DoD or release per current policies and standards.
• Fully perform all UXOSP functions and for UXOTI and UXOTII functions.
• Perform risk‑hazard analysis and maintenance checks on all team equipment.
• Assist in reconnaissance and classification of UXO, including US and foreign guided missiles, bombs and fuses, grenades and fuses, rockets and fuses, land mines and components.
• Locate subsurface UXO using military and/or civilian magnetometers.
• Direct operator maintenance of military and/or civilian magnetometers.
• Locate surface UXO using visual means and assist in transport and storage.
• Responsible for demolition of materials, preparing non‑electric firing systems for UXO disposal, preparing electric firing systems, and disposing of ammunition/explosives by burning.
• Dispose of ammunition/explosives by assisting in the operation of personnel decontamination stations.
• Assist in inspection of salvage UXO‑related material and erection of protective works.
• Provide additional operational mission, test, and exercise support as required.
• May provide instructions or direction to lower‑level technicians.
• Perform all other position‑related duties as assigned or requested.

• High school diploma or GED.
• 8 years of EOD/UXO experience.
• Prior military EOD and/or commercial UXO experience in munitions response or range clearance activities, plus specific project/explosives safety training.
• Graduate of U.S. Naval School EOD and meet the requirements of the DoD Explosive Safety Board (Technical Paper‑18).
• Completed 200 hours of training on MEC and MPPEH.
• Graduate of OSHA‑compliant 40‑hour HAZWOPER course.
• Graduate of OSHA‑compliant 8‑hour Management and Supervisor Training course.
• Completed a 10‑hour OSHA Construction Safety and Health Training and earned a Department of Labor Construction Safety Course Completion Card.
• Knowledge of explosives safety, recognition of munitions and MEC (particularly UXO), and proper use of PPE.
• Computer literate in common software and able to operate general office equipment.
• Experience in a leadership position and ability to lead multi‑skilled personnel.
