POSITION EXPECTATION

The HVAC Technician timely executes tasks associated with the HVAC shop and the facility’s overall maintenance. This position supports remodels, capital and small projects and positively contributes to the comfort and the customer experience of Las Vegas Convention Center visitors and Ambassadors.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain and repair all types of HVAC systems, including air cooling, water cooling, hot and chilled water, Variable Air Volume (VAV), heating and building automation control systems. Troubleshoot with control/chiller diagrams.
  • Retrieve daily assignments and collect and notate work-related data such as labor hours, materials, equipment utilized, and PPE worn for inclusion in the CMMS. Report any follow-up work as needed.
  • Facilitate the Building Management System (BMS) HVAC controls and Indoor Air Quality (IAQ). Modify, schedule, and adjust programs to meet building and customer requirements for comfort control. Prepare and maintain documentation, control flow charts, and the computer-based BMS program.
  • Run copper piping and PVC for new system heating and cooling installations.
  • Perform refrigeration recovery, evacuation, charging and the installation and sizing of refrigerant piping. Diagnose and correct problems in the refrigeration circuit. Use manifold gauge sets, pressure/temperature charts, and temperature measuring devices for routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Identify, diagnose, and troubleshoot components in the heating system.
  • Read wiring on advanced wiring diagrams. Use multi-meters to read voltage, current and resistance values to troubleshoot advanced electrical circuits.
  • Use a psychometric chart to determine the results of mixing air having various properties. Treat air to control its temperature, humidity, cleanliness and distribution simultaneously.
  • Adhere to the correct protocol for assigned work and wear the designated PPE. Advise of any irregularities. Attend weekly and monthly safety meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education And Skills
  • High School Diploma or GED is required, an advanced degree or certification in Air Condition Technology or Central Plan Programs is preferred
  • Minimum five years of recent experience as a HVAC mechanic in Facility Operations residential and commercial equipment
  • Possess mastery knowledge of:
    • Electron theory, how electricity travels, AC and DC currents, single-phase and three-phase circuits, and series and parallel circuits
    • Components within the system operate in conjunction with the other components and how it impacts the overall operations of the system as a whole
    • Fundamentals of temperature and humidity measurement and control in air conditioning units
    • Various energy management systems, heating, ventilation systems, air conditioning and refrigeration systems
    • Trade-specific materials, tools, instrumentation, and equipment
    • Refrigeration cycles and components in advanced refrigeration circuits
    • Applicable building and safety code requirements
    • Heating and cooling load/loss calculations. Working knowledge of electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
  • Ability to:
    • Effectively communicate orally and in writing with peers, other departments/trades, management, outside contractors, etc.
    • Operate an aerial lift at heights of more than 50 feet
  • Basic knowledge of computer and software skills with Microsoft Office Suite and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) is required, experience with Maximo is preferred
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS
  • EPA License
  • Must have a valid Nevada driver’s license at the time of appointment and maintain it during employment
  • Ability to obtain an OSHA certification to operate forklifts, aerial lifts, scissor lifts, and other vehicles in the department within 15 days from the date of hire
