Instrumentation, Control, and Electrical Technician

The Instrumentation, Control, and Electrical Technician is responsible for maintaining and supporting all plant instrumentation and electrical systems within a natural gas-fired, combined-cycle power plant. This role focuses on pressure, temperature, flow, and level transmitters, as well as electrical motors, switch gear, transformers, circuit breakers, and other site electrical equipment ranging from 24 VDC through 13.8 KV. The technician performs troubleshooting, repair, installation, and preventive maintenance while complying with all plant safety and environmental policies.

Responsibilities
  • Proactively monitor and evaluate site instrumentation to ensure reliable and accurate performance.
  • Perform routine scheduled calibrations of all plant instrumentation using the CMMS and maintain accurate records of completed work.
  • Report, document, and actively pursue corrective actions for all findings that require remediation.
  • Apply a creative, solutions-focused mindset to complex technical problems while consistently prioritizing safety.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to continuous safe work practices in all tasks.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of electrical principles commonly used in an electrical power plant environment.
  • Remain current with NFPA 70E and OSHA electrical codes and regulations through ongoing training.
  • Perform routine and major maintenance on instrumentation and control systems throughout the plant.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and adjust Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems and associated electronics used across the facility.
  • Install and maintain electrical conduits, wiring, and site heat tracing systems in accordance with standards and procedures.
  • Perform maintenance and calibrations on electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic valve actuators.
  • Conduct valve stroke testing and calibrations to ensure proper operation and control.
  • Install conduits and wiring for instrumentation devices and controllers, ensuring proper routing and terminations.
  • Complete material requisitions in a thorough, accurate, and timely manner to support maintenance activities.
  • Train and qualify designated site personnel on electrical switching procedures for systems up to 13.8 kV.
  • Monitor and maintain the facility's Continuous Emissions Monitoring (CEMs) system and related equipment.
  • Assist with preparation and support of regulatory reports related to emissions and plant operations.
  • Perform other related responsibilities and duties as assigned to support reliable plant operation.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 3 years of instrumentation experience in an industrial control environment.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as an electrician in an industrial environment working with medium and high voltage electrical components.
  • Experience in the power generation industry is preferred for both instrumentation and electrical responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical theory and concepts applicable to power plant operations.
  • Hands-on experience with plant instrumentation including pressure, temperature, flow, and level transmitters.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and maintaining electrical motors, switch gear, transformers, circuit breakers, and other site electrical equipment.
  • Ability to work safely with electrical systems ranging from 24 VDC through 13.8 KV.
  • Capability to monitor, troubleshoot, and adjust PLC systems and related electronics.
  • Skill in installing and maintaining electrical conduits, wiring, and heat tracing systems.
  • Ability to perform maintenance and calibration on electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic valve actuators.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 70E and OSHA electrical-specific codes and regulations, with a commitment to staying current through training.
  • Strong documentation skills for reporting findings, corrective actions, and maintenance activities.
  • Commitment to continuous safe practices and adherence to plant safety and environmental policies.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in a power generation facility, particularly combined-cycle or natural gas-fired plants, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Continuous Emissions Monitoring (CEMs) systems and associated regulatory reporting.
  • Ability to train and qualify other site personnel on electrical switching procedures up to 13.8 kV.
  • Comfort working with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) for scheduling and tracking calibrations and maintenance.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with the ability to approach difficult technical issues creatively and safely.
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with operations and maintenance teams and documenting work clearly.
  • Attention to detail in completing material requisitions and maintaining accurate records.
  • Adaptability to take on additional responsibilities as assigned in a dynamic plant environment.
