Carpenter II

The Carpenter II is responsible for the successful completion of the assigned jobs to include completing them on time, on budget, and maintaining a high level of quality, safety, and professional communication.

Carpenters work indoors and outdoors, sometimes in tight spaces and must be able to adapt to conditions and circumstances. They work with various hand tools and must keep their tools and worksite in a clean, safe condition.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform carpentry duties in connection with a wide variety of building alterations, maintenance and repair projects and other miscellaneous structures; assists in building and erecting stairs, walls, counters, temporary partitions, shelves, cabinets, ramps, concrete forms, barricades, sheds, bleachers, scaffolding, fences, and other items.
  • Repair furniture desks, tables, chairs, doors, roofs, stairs and handrails, cabinets, floor tile, carpet, signs, baseboards, and roofs for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition.
  • Evaluate blueprints and/or plans for the purposes of ensuring projects are completed per specifications.
  • Fabricate various items (e.g., specialized cabinets, furniture, etc.) for the purpose of providing solutions for unique needs.
  • Operate woodworking equipment and machines to saw, plane, drill or mortise lumber for doors, cabinets, shelves, molding, and related fixtures.
  • Assemble and fastens materials to make frameworks or props, using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue.
  • Maintain equipment rooms, shops, vehicles, and tools. Remove damaged or defective parts or sections of structures and repair or replace using hand tools.
  • Move necessary materials around the jobsite as assigned.
  • Perform all work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Clean up worksite debris.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • A minimum of eighteen months of work experience.
  • A minimum of one hundred fifty successful hours of trade related vocational instruction.
  • Knowledge of general carpentry work in maintenance and repair projects.
  • Methods, materials, tools, safety practices and equipment used in the carpentry trade.
  • Safety factors in the operation of equipment and materials.
  • Knowledge of laminating, cabinet making, and all types of carpentry.
  • Applicable safety codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Employees who attain established levels of proficiency and qualifications are eligible to move to the next level in the carpentry career path.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Read and work from blueprints, technical manuals, charts, and schematics.
  • Erect and work from scaffolding and high places.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports on completed assignments.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of equipment and tools.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Observe safety requirements and safe work practices and methods as required.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative work relationships.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Trade show industry experience

  • Must be able to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb or crawl.
