POSITION SUMMARY:The College of Southern Nevada (CSN) is recruiting for an Electrician I for the Facilities Management Department. This position is responsible for performing journey-level skilled workin the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of electrical systems, wiring, distribution panels, and controls.
Duties include (but are not limited to):- Troubleshooting: and diagnose malfunctions in complex electrical systems, circuits, and machinery using advanced testing equipment like multimeters, amp probes, megohmmeters, and circuittracers to isolate faults quickly.
- Repairs:
Fix or replace faulty switches, receptacles, circuit breakers, fuses, interior/exterior light fixtures, ballasts, and integrated building distribution panels to restore power safely and minimize facility downtime. - Install installations:
Install electrical conduit (EMT, Rigid,PVC), bend and thread piping, run new electrical wiring throughwalls and ceilings, and properly hook up commercial motors,generators, and transformers. - Load Calculations:
Calculate electrical loads, determine appropriate wire sizing, conduit fill ratios, and circuit breakercapacities using Ohm's Law and NEC tables to prevent circuitoverloading. - Code Compliance:
Ensure all new installations, modifications,and existing electrical systems conform strictly to the National Electrical Code (NEC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA
70E) standards, and state regulations - Inspections:
Routinely inspect facility electrical equipment,subpanels, and distribution centers to proactively identify code violations, wear-and-tear, or potential safety hazards. - Safety Protocols:
Follow strict OSHA safety guidelines,including the mandatory use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE),arc flash safety boundaries, and standard Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols before servicing any energized equipment. - Blueprint Reading:
Interpret and work from complex technical blueprints, wiring schematics, single-line diagrams, and architectural drawings to accurately trace circuits and map out new installations. - Tool & Material Management:
Clean, maintain, and properly store specialized electrical tools and testing equipment, andreport when material stock runs low. - Record Keeping:
Document and update facility master blueprintsto reflect system modifications, log completed preventative maintenance tasks and accurately track time and materials in a TMAwork order system. - Coordination:
Collaborate and coordinate effectively with facility managers, other skilled trades (HVAC, plumbing, ), andcity/state electrical inspectors to ensure projects are completedseamlessly and on schedule.
- Completion of a recognized Electrical apprenticeship program;
OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
- A valid Class "C" driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
- A valid Journeyman Electrician License / Certification (or relevant state/municipal electrical credential)
OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
Positions in this class provide assistance tohigher-level staff in determining air conditioning and refrigeration needs and are distinguished from positions at thelower level by lead worker responsibilities that require judgmentsand decisions of a supervisory nature and the independence withwhich duties are performed. This position requires travel between all main campuses and satellite campuses.
Weekly ScheduleMonday through Friday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
Salary InformationCBA A, E, F Grade 31, Step 1 - $57,127.68

Per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC 284.170), salaries for initialappointments for classified positions typically begin at Step
1.
