ABOUT THE POSITION
Clark County is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Eligibility Specialist position for Office of Appointed Counsel and Social Services.
Social Services:
The Eligibility Specialist performs complex, technical, and specialized work to support social service programs. Responsibilities include conducting interviews, investigations, and verifications to determine or re-determine eligibility for public assistance benefits, often working with clients facing difficult or sensitive circumstances.
Office of Appointed Counsel:
The Eligibility Specialist will conduct interviews, manage caseload assignments, and verify eligibility for various social service programs. The position will be based at the Clark County Detention Center and will be required to work various schedule, including nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
THIS RECRUITMENT IS LIMITED TO THE FIRST 250 APPLICATIONS RECEIVED AND WILL CLOSE WITHOUT NOTICE ONCE THAT NUMBER IS REACHED.
This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.
Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified applicants to the selection process.
Some positions may be used to fill term Limited-Permanent positions. The selected candidates will be hired for a special project or duties of a limited duration and be required to sign a term of employment letter specifying condition and exact dates of employment. The successful selected candidates will be eligible for benefits during the duration of employment.
Some positions may be Grant Funded. Grant Funded positions are subject to continuation based on availability of grant funds and the employee will be terminated without right of appeal when such funds are no longer available.
Some positions may be confidential positions and are excluded from membership in the union.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience:
Equivalent to graduation from high school AND three (3) years of full-time experience in interviewing clients, providing information and determining eligibility for various social, medical or related programs. Professional level experience and/or education that has provided the skills and knowledge necessary to perform all job functions at this level may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to two (2) years.
All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application. Working Conditions:
May be required to visit individual client residences. May be required to be bilingual in a specified language other than English.
Licenses and
Certifications:
Specified positions may require possession of a valid Nevada Class C driver's license at time of appointment.
Background Investigation:
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.
Citizenship:
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Please note, Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsor ships or transfers for any employment positions.
Pre-Employment Drug Testing:
Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
* Reviews case notes and files and determines appropriate courses of action in such difficult, complex and specialty areas as nursing home placement, Medicaid coverage, hospital discharge, court casework, etc.; makes recommendations for appropriate coverage and referrals.
* Provides outreach to the community or client base to which assigned; makes clients aware of services and community resources available to them.
* Provides basic referral and casework service to clients in collaboration with professional social work staff.
* Interviews clients to obtain information, determine eligibility for various social service programs and assess the appropriateness of referral to other community assistance or social service agencies.
* Obtains and verifies income, asset insurance and related information; contacts employers, banks, social security, veterans' administration and other public and private sources as necessary.
* Assists clients in completing applications; provides factual information regarding various program regulations and procedures; may act as an advocate for the client with other organizations.
* Creates and maintains case files; maintains accurate documentation regarding all information received and actions taken.
