Position Description

The Office of Community Engagement Hope Program Coordinator (HPC) is a multifaceted leadership role responsible for coordinating community engagement initiatives, implementation, managing community services programs, serving as the primary liaison for Department, individuals and families experiencing homelessness, supervising, training and supporting staff, interns, volunteers, and community participants, evaluation of community-focused programs that support social services, and maintenance of priority, high-impact partnerships with stakeholders including community groups, community-based organizations (CBOs) and key collaborators.

This role supports outreach efforts and assists in identifying service gaps, trends, and community needs related to the unhoused community resources, field education, practicum/internship placements, and collaborative initiatives with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Social Work Program, using evidence-based, client centered, and trauma-informed practice.

This role requires a high level of professionalism, empathy, and leadership with a strong focus on equity, access, and community impact. Works closely with internal and external departments, community stakeholders, service providers, and boards that fund partners to design and manage programs that address community needs, promote equity, and enhance service delivery. This position also works with agencies applying for grants, reviewing, scoring and ranking various grants, facilitates meetings, and supports cross-sector collaboration.

Incumbents are expected to exercise discretion, maintain confidentiality, and apply professional work ethics, equity principles, and public service accountability standards.

This position is appointed by the Sheriff and is not subject to the competitive requirements of the Civil Service Rules of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Best Candidates Will Have

• Three years of increasingly responsible professional work experience in crisis intervention, social services, community outreach, or working with the unhoused community and at-risk populations.
• Equivalent to a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university with major course work in psychology, social work, counseling or a related field.
• Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Nevada driver license.
• Excellent and effective communication, both written and verbal.
• Experience with public speaking and group facilitation.
• Experience with conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques.
• Experience with program coordination and stakeholder engagement.
• Experience with organizational and time management.
• Experience with supervising, mentoring, and training staff and volunteers.
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications, electronic record systems, database management, internet research, email communication, and virtual meeting platform.
• Ability to facilitate, coordinate, and support community programs and outreach activities.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and community needs.
• Ability to coordinate contracts, memoranda of understanding, and interagency agreements.
• Ability to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate community engagement programs in accordance with organizational goals and civil service policies.
• Ability to problem solve and address community and program-related issues.
• Knowledge of public service programs, social services, and community-based resources.
• Knowledge of program coordination, administration, and evaluation methods.
• Knowledge of policies, procedures, and compliance requirements in a public or nonprofit setting.
• Knowledge of equity-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive practices.
• Knowledge of data collection and reporting standards.
