The position of Bilingual (Spanish) Court Advocate (Court-Based ) provides trauma-informed, victim-centered advocacy and support services to victims and witnesses involved in the criminal justice process. This position serves as a liaison between victims, prosecutors, law enforcement agencies, and community service providers to ensure victims are informed of their rights, understand court proceedings, and have access to appropriate services throughout the prosecution of criminal cases.

The Court Advocate promotes victim safety, empowerment, and informed participation in the criminal justice system while maintaining compliance with state victim rights statutes, confidentiality requirements, and office policies. This position assists Deputy District Attorneys in preparing cases by maintaining communication with victims and witnesses, coordinating court appearances, and providing emotional support throughout the legal process.

• Provide trauma-informed advocacy, crisis intervention, emotional support, and case management to victims and witnesses involved in criminal prosecutions.
• Explain criminal justice procedures, victim rights, court processes, case status, and available legal options in a clear and compassionate manner.
• Assist victims with completing victim impact statements, restitution documentation, compensation applications, and other required court forms.
• Conduct ongoing safety assessments and safety planning for victims whose circumstances may change throughout the criminal justice process.
• Maintain regular communication with victims regarding hearings, continuances, plea negotiations, sentencing, and case outcomes.
• Coordinate witness and victim appearances for court hearings, trials, and other legal proceedings.
• Accompany victims and witnesses during court proceedings to provide support and explain courtroom procedures.
• Serve as the primary point of contact between victims, prosecutors, law enforcement agencies, and other criminal justice partners.
• Provide prosecutors with relevant victim information, concerns, and updates to assist in case preparation and prosecution.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential case documentation in designated case management systems.
• Coordinate referrals to community agencies for counseling, shelter, emergency assistance, legal services, housing, financial assistance, and other supportive services.
• Respond to victim and witness inquiries in person, by telephone, email, and written correspondence.
• Assist with obtaining restitution information and documenting financial losses incurred by victims.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, community outreach, and collaborative efforts to improve victim services.
