GENERAL FUNCTION

Under the direction of the Health and Wellness Director the position’s primary goal is to instruct group exercise classes for members in accordance with the objectives and policies set forth by the Association.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Promotes the YMCA’s healthy spirit, mind and body philosophy through fitness classes.
  • Develops and leads group fitness routines. Comes to class prepared with necessary teaching materials. Begins and ends classes on time.
  • Instructs class in proper sequence and with safe physical education principles and techniques.
  • Performs and demonstrates safe leg, arm, head and trunk movements of fitness routine and exercise.
  • Uses personal initiative for growth through related study, seminars, workshops and training events.
  • Shares with other staff the responsibility for membership through promotion and cross marketing to class participants.
  • Reports all program suggestions, problems, and needs to Health and Wellness Director.
  • Maintains current required certification(s).
  • Clears area of safety hazards. Sets up, puts away, and operates all equipment and materials needed for class.
  • Communicates with individuals or groups to increase YMCA participation and to promote YMCA philosophy.
  • Restrains from promoting other agencies events, classes, programs, to YMCA members while working at the Y.
  • Attends branch and department meetings as required by supervisor. Participates as a team member in the department.
  • Promotes and embraces YMCA Character Development.
  • Upholds and exemplifies the principles of the YMCA Member Service Program.
  • Adheres to all branch/department policies and procedures related to safety, conduct, rules and other regulations.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Abuse Risk Management Functions
  • Adheres to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
  • Attends required abuse risk management training.
  • Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • Adheres to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or G.E.D.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Current Red Cross CPR & First Aid Certification for Professional Rescuers (within 30 days of hire - may complete at the YMCA)
  • Group Exercise certification or specialty fitness certification(s) (within 30 days of hire date)
