Description

The Associate Dean provides leadership in curriculum and program development, as well as program delivery across multiple campuses. This role also involves overseeing enrolment planning, financial and administrative operations, and facilitating accreditation, articulation, and partnership agreements. The Associate Dean represents the Facundo Valdez School of Social Work statewide, regionally, nationally, and internationally. Additionally, the Associate Dean supports the Dean by contributing to internal and external performance benchmarks and plays a key role in developing and analyzing data to assess the achievement of School goals and objectives.

In addition to managing accreditation processes, program reviews, and course evaluations as requested by the Dean, the Associate Dean helps shape academic and administrative policies. They ensure quality assurance and compliance by developing necessary processes and ensuring adherence to the provisions outlined in the CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement), the faculty handbook, as well as administrative policies and guidelines.

The Associate Dean fosters a supportive culture surrounding Tenure and Promotion and collaborates with faculty, field education staff, and Student Affairs to address student-related issues and confidential matters.

Community Event Representative

Event Attendance and Community Engagement:
Attend and represent the Dean at events related to the FVSSW, both on campus and within the community, fostering relationships and enhancing University visibility.

Academic Integrity

Oversight of Academic Integrity Cases:
Act as the Dean’s designated representative to oversee and manage academic integrity cases originating within the faculty, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.

Accreditation

Compliance with Accreditation and Regulatory Standards:
Review documents and reports to ensure compliance with relevant accreditation standards and regulatory requirements with CSWE (Council on Social Work Education).

Academic Policies and Support

Collaboration on Academic Policies and Programs:
Work with the Dean and faculty members to develop, implement, and assess academic policies and revision, curricula, and academic programs that align with University goals.

Work collaboratively with the Dean and Program Coordinators to complete class scheduling and recruitment of instructors.

Support for Academic Innovation:
Support faculty with initiatives related to academic innovation, including the development of new course offerings and interdisciplinary programs.

Budget

Collaborate with the Dean and the ORSP (Office of Research and Special Projects) to prepare budget planning that aligns with School and University priorities and resource allocation.

FVSSW Dean’s Meetings

Attendance at University Provost Council Meetings:
Attend and actively contribute to the Provost Council meetings.

Academic Process and Procedures & Student Support

Academic Appeal Process:
Participate in the Academic Appeal Process as the Dean’s designee, ensuring all appeals are handled fairly and in compliance with School and University policies.

Policy and Procedure Communication:
Ensure that policies, procedures, and operational information are communicated clearly and effectively to School faculty and staff colleagues.

Student Support

Support student support initiatives (e.g., HU CARES) and other student services.

Support in Student-Related Incidents:
Attend to and aid in managing student-related incidents, including academic and behavioral issues, in accordance with School programmatic and University policies.

Attendance at University-Wide Meetings

Attend University meetings (e.g., Faculty Senate) and contribute to cross-institutional initiatives and discussions.

Oversight of Program Reviews, Accreditation, and Certification

Oversee program review updates, accreditation, articulation, and certification processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory and University standards (i.e., CSWE, HLC, etc.).
