A part-time job on-campus offers a great way for you to earn money to help pay for school as well as to get a jump start on your career track. Student employment allows you to acquire work experience, transferable job skills, self-confidence, and develop a network of professional contacts for your future career. On-campus jobs include departmental, federal/state work-study, and graduate assistantships (GA) in non-academic departments.

Keep in mind that each department makes their own hiring decisions, therefore students are not placed in a job or guaranteed a job.

Academic Support Aide

ARMAS

The Achieving in Research, Math, and Science ( ARMAS ) education center provides academic support to all NMHU students, with special emphasis on those taking Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math ( STEM ) related courses.
This is largely a student-run organization, who provide peer mentoring/tutoring and supplemental instruction.
The center also provides study space, printing and copying services, and is a place for social interaction.

SILs are responsible for:
1) Conducting SI sessions for their assigned class (3 sessions / week)
2) Providing reports detailing lesson planning, student attendance, and other data
3) Attending lecture section of course
4) Meeting with the course professor (1 hour / weekly)
5) Holding office hours (6 hours / week)
6) Possible front desk duty and event planning (as needed)
7) Some SILs may have additional mentoring duties
8) Meeting weekly with SIL Coordinator (1 hour)

SILs act as mentors to NMHU students and as role models to fellow employees at the ARMAS Center. While most of an SIL’s daily work will be centered around providing direct support to students, SILs are expected to support ARMAS center staff and student employees as needed.

• Currently enrolled NMHU student, with 1 year or more of college completed.
• Overall GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Must have received a B or better (final grade) in the course applying for, preferably at NMHU .
• Demonstrate good interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to commit 20 hours per week to the job and attend weekly meetings and training sessions.
• Must commit to attend / work for the NE Regional Science Fair March 1, 2, 3, 2024.
• MUST BE AVAILABLE TO ATTEND MANDATORY ARMAS EMPLOYEE ORIENTATION ON AUGUST 12, 2023.
