Laboratory Aide

The Chemical Stockroom (second floor of the Hilton Science Building room 262). The purpose of the chemical stockroom is to provide chemicals for research and classes as needed. It is also essential in the maintenance of equipment found throughout the Chemistry Department. Working life will consist of being available for chemical pickup and drop off during office hours. As well as being able to manage multiple tasks and being available for questions and suggestions in the absence of supervisor.

Job description may include routine duties with no prior experience needed to be able to perform. May involve a modest degree of responsibility and judgment. Routine data entry;
Answering phones;
Making copies;
Greeting customers;
Taking messages;
Managing confidential information;
Maintain regular attendance; and, Perform other job duties as assigned.

• Assist in moving and setting up lab equipment and supplies as needed
• Maintain a clean and orderly storage area this also pertains to chemistry areas
• Assist in preparation of chemical reagents in teaching laboratories if needed
• Organize and clean glassware
• Assists in inventory updates of chemicals to tracking system
• Assists in chemical waste disposal as needed
• Informs supervisor of possible defects in equipment
• Assists in maintaining lab security of chemicals within stockroom
• Inventories lab supplies and equipment upon return and checkout
• Other duties as assigned or needed.

Education:

College student at NMHU enrolled with a minimum of six (6) credit hours. High school diploma or GED .

Experience:

None

• Must be a NMHU Student taking a minimum of 6 credit hours.
• STEM Student required; A focus in Chemistry is preferred
• Minimum 2.0 GPA required

Frequently:
Standing, Walking, Bending, Squatting, Kneeling, Repetitive hand motion, Prolonged use of computer. Occasionally:
Lifting a minimum of thirty (30) pounds, Climbing.

Hourly Rate $10.50/ Hour
