Gallatin Operations is recruiting for a Level IV Certified Water Operator to assist with the operation, oversight, and management of Gallatin Operations facilities, primarily at the City of Las Vegas, New Mexico Water Treatment Plant. Job Summary

The Water Treatment Plant Superintendent is responsible for the operation, oversight, and management of the City of Las Vegas Water Treatment Plant. This position provides general direction and leadership to operations staff; ensures quality assurance and quality control; supervises and coordinates water production, treatment, storage, and plant operations; and coordinates assigned activities with other divisions, facilities, outside agencies, regulatory representatives, and the public.

Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the incumbent performs highly responsible and complex administrative, technical, and operational duties. Work is carried out with a high degree of independent judgment in accomplishing assigned responsibilities, addressing operational needs, supporting regulatory compliance, and developing or improving programs and procedures. The incumbent is accountable for operational results and plays a key role in ensuring the reliable production of safe drinking water.

  • Oversee water treatment plant operations, including equipment, instrumentation, laboratory analysis, process control, maintenance coordination, and safety.
  • Coordinate and integrate water treatment plant operations with process control, laboratory, maintenance, and compliance functions.
  • Develop, direct, coordinate, and review work plans and Standard Operating Procedures for assigned plant operations, services, and activities.
  • Assign work activities and projects; monitor workflow; review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures; and meet with staff to identify and resolve operational concerns.
  • Prepare monthly compliance reports for the client and/or permitting agency.
  • Oversee software programs used to generate technical reports related to water quality and compliance.
  • Troubleshoot and update spreadsheets, reports, and data management tools as needed.
  • Review permit requirements on a regular schedule to ensure continued regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare, assign, and track progress on facility tasks, maintenance activities, repairs, and work orders.
  • Purchase chemicals and supplies used in the water treatment process and assist with establishing annual contracts with chemical suppliers.
  • Select, train, motivate, and evaluate plant operations and laboratory personnel.
  • Provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; and assist with disciplinary or termination procedures in accordance with company policy.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of capital improvement projects for the facility.
  • Participate in the development and administration of assigned program budgets.
  • Forecast funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Monitor and approve expenditures and recommend budget adjustments as necessary.
  • Prepare and present staff reports, correspondence, and other documentation as appropriate.
  • Coordinate operational activities with other divisions, outside agencies, organizations, vendors, and regulatory representatives.
  • Attend and participate in professional group meetings and remain current on new trends, regulations, technologies, and best practices in water treatment operations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Working Conditions

Work is performed in both office and water treatment plant environments. The position may be subject to adverse weather conditions, fumes, chemicals, toxic agents, mechanical equipment, and other hazards commonly associated with the operation and maintenance of water treatment facilities.
