The Department of Applied and Interdisciplinary Engineering (AIE) at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) invites applications for a 9‑month, non‑tenure track Lecturer or Assistant Professor‑in‑Residence position in Cybersecurity, with expertise in Artificial Intelligence beginning July 1, 2027.
Position OverviewThis role primarily involves teaching undergraduate and graduate courses within UNLV’s cybersecurity programs and expanding the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) concepts, tools, and applications throughout the curriculum. The standard teaching load is four courses (12 credits) per semester. Summer teaching opportunities may be available for additional compensation.
Key Responsibilities- Teach cybersecurity courses and develop/update curricula.
- Mentor and advise students.
- Support program assessment and accreditation activities.
- Participate in departmental, college, and university service.
- Incorporate contemporary AI technologies and methodologies into education and help prepare students for an AI‑enabled security landscape.
- Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Academic preparation, professional experience, or technical expertise in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, or their intersection.
- Ph.D. in a related field.
- Evidence of effective and impactful teaching, especially in online and technology‑enhanced environments.
- Prior academic or industry experience in AI, machine learning, cybersecurity, data analytics, or related fields.
- Expertise in AI technologies such as machine learning, generative AI, agentic AI, CybrAIOps, large language models (LLMs), and data science.
- Experience applying AI techniques to cybersecurity challenges (e.g., threat detection, security analytics, cyber threat intelligence, adversarial machine learning, secure AI systems, AI governance).
- Professional certifications relevant to AI, cloud computing, cybersecurity, or data science.
- Experience developing hands‑on laboratories, projects, or experiential learning activities involving AI and/or cybersecurity.
- Technical skills related to AI, cybersecurity, cloud, data analytics, or software development tools.
Rank depends on credentials: terminal Ph.D. candidates will be considered for Assistant Professor‑in‑Residence; master’s degree holders with less extensive experience will be considered for Lecturer.
