The Student Analyst will support the Institutional Research and Data Management (IRDM) team on projects that assist University leadership in making strategic decisions, fulfill required reporting and accreditation activities, assess the student experience, and analyze student success outcomes.
The ideal candidate possesses basic technical skills, is comfortable working with data, has an aptitude for social science research, and is detail-oriented, curious, and eager to learn.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in developing surveys for University stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, and external partners, to assess the quality of their experience at the University.
- Support the distribution, tracking, and monitoring of active surveys; perform initial data cleaning and organization of survey responses.
- Conduct basic analyses using Excel, Google Sheets, or other data tools (e.g., simple statistics, filters, pivot tables), and create summary tables, charts, or visualizations to support reports.
- Contribute to drafting brief reports or summaries of survey findings and participate in team meetings to brainstorm survey ideas and discuss results.
- Ensure the accuracy, confidentiality, and integrity of all collected data.
- Assist with IRDM Office responsibilities, which may include routine or ad hoc federal, state, and internal reporting.
- Support data governance activities, including verifying data, documenting data definitions, and testing data structures and reporting outputs.
- Current University student in good academic standing.
- Basic technical skills and familiarity with Excel, Google Sheets, or similar tools.
- Ability to work carefully with data and maintain a high level of accuracy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to learn new tools and analytical techniques.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Reliability, professionalism, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Experience creating surveys using tools such as Qualtrics, Google Forms, or Survey Monkey.
- Coursework or experience in data analysis, research methods, or the social sciences.
- Experience preparing charts, graphs, and basic summary reports.
- Strong attention to detail and interest in interpreting data summaries and survey results.
- Flexible schedule of approximately 10–20 hours per week, coordinated around class commitments.
- Preference for candidates who are available to continue work during the summer.
