Department Summary

Maintaining a modern paleo magnetic-rock magnetic laboratory is critical for the mission of the Geology discipline to maintain an active student-oriented research program, to provide a much needed service laboratory for PhD granting institutions nationally and internationally, and facilitate service revenue generation via local, state, and federal agency contract work. This vision aligns with the department and the university strategic plan.

General Job Description

TECHNICIAN RESPONSIBILITIES :
The student work study will serve in multiple roles to assist with the operation of the paleo magnetic-rock magnetic laboratory.

Specific Duties

Specific duties include:

1) Conduct analyses using all laboratory instruments following extensive training by the lab manager and standard lab preparation of samples.

2) Maintain a daily log of YOUR research activities.

3) Managing confidential information.

4) Updating the on-line literature database on specific projects as needed.

5) Establish and maintain a GIS database of studies conducted in the laboratory.

Perform other job duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Enrolled at NMHU in the Earth Sciences or closely related field preferred. Applicant must demonstrate
1) a record of research lab experience,
2) ability to operate complex lab equipment, and
3) understand laboratory safety protocol and technical knowledge of geophysical laboratory operations.
