What To Expect
Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Test Engineer to contribute to the continuous improvement of Manufacturing Test Equipment for the Global Service Manufacturing team. The role involves designing, developing, and optimizing test equipment for Tesla’s Battery, Drive Unit, Charger, and Power Electronics lines across several vehicle models. Responsibilities also include supporting equipment debugging tasks and updating legacy test and automation equipment.

- Participate in initial equipment concept development, balancing product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead‑time constraints.
- Define efficient plans for testing, automating, and improving equipment with a focus on time/cost reduction and low complexity to release new automation quickly.
- Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and firmware teams throughout projects.
- Create clear, simple GUI screens for complex test and automation machinery, providing adequate feedback for troubleshooting.
- Maintain strong vendor relationships and manage their deliverables.
- Continuously design and implement improvements to released equipment.
- Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 2–3 years of relevant industry experience.
- Experience developing with NI Lab View and Test Stand.
- Experience working with CAN, XNET, and programming languages such as Python, C#, C++, and Java.
- Familiarity with electronic circuits; high‑voltage environments preferred but not required.
- Ability to work well under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines.
- Exposure to a variety of test and automation systems, production machinery, industrial sensors, data acquisition and I/O devices (pogo pins, pressure transducers, temperature controllers, current and power meters, PLCs, etc.).

$82,440 – $176,040 annual salary plus cash and stock awards and benefits. Compensation may vary by location, experience, and skills.
