Engineer III – Controls

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design and Development:
    Identify and understand the company’s needs related to control systems; analyze data to identify areas for improvement; implement solutions to enhance control system efficiency.
  • Technical Support and Mentorship:
    Provide technical support to team members; work with maintenance to remedy breakdowns.
  • System Configuration and Optimization:
    Configure, standardize, and optimize control systems for equipment and processes; define system requirements and participate in system configuration; act as a liaison between end‑users and system developers/OEMs while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and quality standards.
  • Project Management:
    Develop and execute projects from start to finish, ensuring successful implementation; supervise installation, testing, and commissioning of control systems; manage project costs, schedules, and budgets; develop business cases where automation and control upgrades can improve throughput and costs for a given work center or process.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years working in the controls and automation industry.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the steel automation industry.
  • Problem‑solving skills.
  • Familiarity with engineering‑related software.
  • Knowledge of lean principles.
  • Knowledge of PLC programming.
  • Familiarity with Rockwell and Siemens controllers.
  • HMI development is required.
  • Familiarity with Aveva InTouch.
  • AC and DC drive knowledge.
  • Expertise with Ether Net/IP, Industrial Ethernet and Profibus Networks (CAN) is valuable.
  • Knowledge of automated equipment systems, robotics, and material handling.
